Announcers (Official Thread)

the more i listen to spiels the more i like him. don't think he has the voice for the job, but he's the only educated impartial voice in the booth. i suspect the other announcers try to paint him as slanted when he speaks because they have nothing to say that is worthy of following his explanations.

It will cost Bob 1 week for the 'Griese taco' remark.

CBS

Broadcaster Griese suspended for Montoya remark

ESPN broadcaster Bob Griese has been suspended one week for a remark he made about NASCAR driver Juan Pablo Montoya.

ESPN spokesman Josh Krulewitz says Griese will not be working a game this week.

Krulewitz says ESPN has spoken to Griese and "he understands the comment was inappropriate."

During ESPN's broadcast of the Minnesota-Ohio State game Saturday, a graphic was shown listing the top five drivers in NASCAR's points race. Fellow analyst Chris Spielman asked where was Montoya, who is Colombian.

Griese replied he was "out having a taco."

He has twice apologized on air for the remark.

Montoya is declining to comment on Griese's suspension. He brushed off the remark Sunday, and said he'd never heard of Griese.

My buddy and I were watching when Griese said that. Holy shit was that funny. He also seemed to dispute everything Spielman said. The guy just doesn't like anything Ohio State related. Fuck him.
How do you mean? Every time I've watched Griese call a Buckeye game (post Brian's days at scUM) he's been nothing but complimentary of Ohio State, in fact he spent the entire afternoon Saturday defending Tressel and all that he has accomplished at Ohio State in his 8 seasons. I enjoyed listening to Griese stick it to those 97.1 shitheads who called in and bitched about Ohio State, Pryor, and Tressel. I'm more upset that they broke the pairing of Nessler, Griese, and Maguire, because anything Paul had to say Griese just called him out on it and basically pointed out what a dumbass Maguire is.. it was hilarious!

Mason was a grade A tampon today.

"i don't want to critisize Tressell because he is a great coah....BUT"

then he rambles on and on for like 10 minutes how Pryor should be in pads since he is part of the team. It sets a bad example with other guys seeing the start QB just walking around in a sweat shirt.

I concluded that, after listening to him the whole game, probably part of the reason why he wasn't chosen as Cooper's successor is because he probably never shut the fuck up during the whole interview.

All you guys making fun of Mason, and the fact he wasn't hired by Ohio State, just think about this for a moment: how would YOU like to be up for a new job, and find out the other candidate is Jim Tressel?

Just sayin' ...

The color guy, Rosen must have messed up Buckeye player names at least 10 times yesterday.

Also, Mason kept calling Rosen out all day making fun of the guy for using "terrific" to describe some of OSU's drives.

You'd think in their second season that the Big 10 network wouldn't seem so amateurish.

Mason never had anything positive to say about the Buckeyes yesterday without pointing out something negative. For example, he was critical after a Pryor 10-yard scramble for a first down. He said the coaches can't be happy with an offensive play breaking down like that. Really? That's what make Pryor special.

During the broadcast, my friend's wife (not knowing who he was) actually asked if he was a bitter former Michigan player.
