Announcers (Official Thread)

These guys have NFL network syndrome...when Collinsoworth and Gumbel were doing games on NFLN, I wanted to gouge out my own eyeballs and skullfuck myself to stop the pain.

Now I don't even get NFLN, which I'm not sure is good or bad.
I thought the announcers were horrible this past weekend for the NMSt game. The negative editorializing and the 10 minute rant about Pryor taking his pads off were unbearable.
Sad to say but I think even being on ESPN36 with Andre Ware and Desmond Howard calling the game with Tanya Harding on the sideline would have been better. Mercifully I was at the McKinley/Massillon game so I missed all of the TV crap in the 2nd half.

interesting few remember mason was an osu player, he coached at ohio state for 8 years and spent a good chunk of that time as ocor, he had this young qb coach that he helped bring along... oh wait that wouldnt help the argument that every anaylst is against ohio state, right?

Collinsworth and Gumbel didn't have any OSU bias, and they were unbearable. For me, if a hockey announcer can rattle off about 15 European names in 45 seconds, then a football guy should know who the fuck #82 is. That type of knowledge or preparation was annoyingly absent Saturday.

...and then that young qb coach got the osu job mason so desperately longed for, and mason resented getting passed over ever since...

youre making an apparent allegation? or one youll actually stand by?

thanks for correcting the year.

I don't think there's any question Mason felt as a experienced and somewhat successful head coach and OSU man through-and-through he should have been the heir apparent instead of Tressel, and that perceived slight has colored his commentary toward OSU's coaching ever since. That seems apparent to me.

To be clear, I don't think Mason hates Tressel or anything: they go way back and surely have a lot of mutual respect (JT made Mason an honorary captain not long ago), but during Saturday's game his underlying envy of Tressel's position came through in his constant second-guessing of coaching decisions.

Geiger told Jeff Logan, a member of the advisory committee, that Mason was "devastated" when told that Tressel would be the new coach.

im still not pulling it together. i rewatched the game and a lot of the commentary...i didnt see anything outrageous. then again one week its griese, the next its herbie then its mason. then again i see a lot to criticize and a lot of room for improvement. that being said the next 3 games should be interesting as we play what i believe are 2 of the 3 best teams we play all year and our rival.

maybe its just me, but i think you can be "devastated" and happy for someone youve worked with at the same time, and i think you can get over something almost a decade ago, maybe some cant. yet i find it hard to believe a guy who has had mason's success, history and has been around the program and called tons of games over that span really wanted to stick it to tressel/the university/program, etc...

reality is their is a lot of room for analysis/commentary and anytime that someone seems to say anything remotely possibly that its critical a patch of buckeye nation get there panties in a wet bunch and get a burr up their...
