Head Coach
I was just wondering if anyone here is familar with ankle injuries...

I twisted it last Wednesday...

At first it swelled up real bad, I stayed off of it Thursday, Friday, Saturday...

Putting ice and elevating it and the whole bit...

Then I got one of those black ankle braces that fit like a sock and I started to wear that and I think that I had that too tight as the bruise on my ankle got bigger...

Now It won't hurt during the day that much and I walk around campus on it with a little limp.

But the thing is when I wake up that it hurts worse than the day b4 and hurts for about an hour and then I can't walk on it again.

Also the bruise goes about 5 inches above the ankle bone...

Anyone that could help me, I don't want to go have x-rays, but at this point I am wondering if I should...

Go get X-Rays. I'm no doctor, but a simple twist or sprain shouldn't behave like that.

If it has been a week since the initial injury and it seems to be getting worse and not better you really should go have some x-rays taken. Bad sprains can take a little while to heal and sometimes air casts are in order however, there should be some signs of imprivement by now..

suck it up and expose yourself to some radiation, everyones doing it!

Good Luck!

I agree with the naughty nurse. High Ankle sprains hurt like hell and can take forever to recover from if you don't get it immobilized completely.

But from what you're describing, I'd say you may have torn something.

Um...get an x-ray. You need to see if it is bone related. If not than you need to see if you tore anything with an MRI.

Sounds like more than just a sprain to me.

or just rub some dirt on it...

You might have some ligament damage.
Drink lots of cheap liqueur and it will be fine.
Or it might rot and fall off!
Years from now one ankle will be thicker than the other and you'll probably have arthritis in it.

I jacked my ankle up pretty bad about a year ago -- took 2 weeks to be able to walk w/o it "collapsing".
You should definitely get an xray to make sure, but a lot of it sounds similar to mine -- which was a tear. Took a couple of weeks on crutches/cane to get it back.
Oh, and do your best not to jack up your other ankle if you're going to push yourself.
