If you go on the site appbrain to look at apps they have app for syncing with them. So if you are browsing on your computer and find something you want, just click the install button and it will automatically download on your phone.

Unfortunately, the system is way too crippled without being rooted. If you are not rooted, most of the themes and what not you get will require a home replacement (IE: Home++) and they theme over it. The real problem with this is that apps in /system/app still tend to load, and Home.apk is in that directory. So, it continues to run in addition to the home replacement with the excess memory usage of the new graphics and whatever hooks they have to run the theme and it really slows down the system.

To me, even beyond Cyanogen, that's the key importance for me, the ability to remove apps and control memory usage, overwrite graphics and optimize my phone, to rooting my phone.

Skyfire seems faster. It's not quite as sleek as the regular browser, but it has a lot more functionality. Case in point

Hey guys, I just got done watching a hilarious episode of The Office. On my phone. Via the Skyfire browser. Thanks to Hulu. A recent update to the Skyfire browser seems to have quietly enabled Hulu.com support. It’s unsure if this was given the green light by Hulu or not, but venturing to an episode or clip of one of your favorite shows allows Skyfire to detect the video content on the page and play it in the browser’s innovative “Video” feature.

PC application for your Android phones:

Handbrake - video converter. The Android only supports mp4 playback. Google for the settings for your phone. If you don't get it right, your videos may play with only audio on your phone.
Handbrake settings for my HTC Incredible

Select your source (DVD or video file)

Set your destination folder for video output

Select 'iPhone & iPod Touch' preset, right column

Set Framerate (FPS) to 23.976

Start conversion!

  1. PicSay Pro - great for quick photo editing or complex tweaks (exposure, contrast, sharpening). also offers text & clipart options for quick farks or comments.

  3. Beautiful widgets - nice replacement clock/weather for home screen. $1.50, takes up only one row instead of two. Also includes other toggle buttons but they were inferior to HTC strip of toggle buttons.

  4. NESoid lite, SNESoid lite, GameBOID lite, Gensoid - emulators for various consoles, the lite versions are free but don't include saving functionality. Search for just NESoid for the premium, save-able versions.

Fun games that lose their appeal after a week:
  1. Jewellust - $ the best bejeweled game on Android. Fun gameplay, just not something I'd play after beating it.
  2. Sketch Online - Free? pictionary with other users. Interactive, entertaining, frustrating, but not compelling long-term.
  3. Air Hockey - $ about what you'd expect, includes 2 player. Not that thrilling.

Other hit games:

  1. Baseball superstars - $ tremendous game, but every inning or two the framerate drops to 1-2 fps (aka 7 seconds for pitch to reach home plate), but resumes at normal speed at random and inconvenient times. Great gameplay, depth of rosters, abilities. If they can shore up that issue, this is a top download.
  2. Radiant - $ simple scrolling galaga/space invaders game. Great gameplay, sound, etc.
  3. Bonsai Blast - $ same as Zuma on pc, just with your finger. A little harder to control exact placement but a fun game.

  2. Goobers vs Boogers - $ very poor remake of Worms.

I like the QR codes posting idea. What's that app you use to scan them? I had to hard reset my phone the other day and forgot what that one was. Also if you pay for an app list the price and/or say if there is a free version.

I found out appbrain.com has a syncing app for android phones. So if you are browsing your PC and find apps on their site that you like and you click install you can later sync them to your phone. The app also lets you know if any of your apps need updating. It's also great if you need to reformat your phone, because it keeps all of your old apps stored so you can later reinstall them.

For SNESoid I found out you can still use that blaster that came with it. Is that possible on NESoid? Then you could still play duck hunt.

Teddy, this vid will show you how to use the bar code scanner. I think the main advantage of wifi is that it's faster. I don't know if battery life is affected.

Probably old news to a lot of you, but do any of you guys use ShopSavvy? I've found it to be pretty handy for my Eris. As of January 2010 it scans QR codes, as well. For those of you who have used multiple apps like this, are there any others you like better than ShopSavvy?
