Did you not read the sentence I quoted? Some moderator basically said Thump's old joke isn't funny anymore, as if his saying that made it law and something we would all surely agree with. So yes, I was trying to stir the pot--if that pot is full of statements with which I am assumed to agree.

OK, let's run with this for a bit. Let's say that we end up getting a couple Michigan fans as members who end up as well-mannered, articulate, respectful, and admired as "outsiders" as are EngineerHorn, High Lonesome, TSKCoug, etc.--"outside" members who never talk trash, always respect this board and our university, and who readily bring honest appraisals of their own programs. What if they started complaining about "Fuck Michigan" and "Michigan sucks"?

Or, since it seems we're concerned about how true "outsiders" (non-members)--such as families of potential recruits or even recruits themselves, and members of the staff and administration of Ohio State--what if potential recruits or even verbals who live in Michigan (such as Gant) or members of the staff or administration of Michigan take exception to "Michigan bashing". Do we cease?

I'm being dead serious here...

I think the huge problem now is, what is consider acceptable.

For one thing you can tell where the thread got origanlly pulled by a mod, at that point nothing offensive was said unless Thumps use of the word figure skater is now offensive.

If you are going to start handing out wanrings for offending words that is fine, just make sure you are ready to not only give the regular posters public warning on their profiles but make sure you are ready and willing to give them to Mods also.

Can you be serious in thinking this is really about just one word? Well-intentioned or not, this is a form of censorship and that doesn't sit well with a number of posters who have previously been free to speak their mind without any second thought. This is the first stage of PC creep...

If those "michigan fans" were members of the Ohio State University and could have significant effect on the operation of BuckeyePlanet ... then I think Clarity would have to consider it. I'm dead serious.

no, but we are talking about VERBAL stuff here. and Yes i have been bashed for being fat. We aren't talking about actually calling people "homos" in person and kicking their asses. Apples to apples not apples to oranges
