As for the rest of this thread...enough is enough. Whether you feel wronged or not, several mod's have asked that this behavior in this particular thread be stopped. So stop. I also feel a couple of you have crossed the line, but for the most part, it appears to be innocent fun...well, it may not be so innocent if people are complaining, so let's end it here.

The staff (me) asked that the gay and race bashing be eliminated or greatly curtailed. Seems like (in the past 2-3 weeks) the gay issue has picked back up again. I guess Clarity can address this issue when his health is better and he returns. FWIW we were specifically asked to stop this behavior as it reflects poorly on BuckeyePlanet. In that regard, I'm going to start handing our warnings for the use of derogitory terms (homo, fag, etc.) in instances where their use is unwarranted. There was a chance to discuss this topic rationally and reasonably. Instead we're back to using poor terms in a derogitory fashion. Enough.

Going forward I'll leave your use of these terms unaltered so that folks can see who's been acting the fool. You will however receive a warning.



Maybe you folks don't get it. Folks at tOSU look at this site. The athletic department, the administration, the lawyers ... they all see how we conduct ourselves. We need to have a relationship with those folks.

OK, why don't we quit saying "Fuck Michigan" or "Michigan sucks"...aren't we defiling an entire group of people just because the go to a certain university or live in a certain state?

I don't have to be friendly to any "certain sect of society" just because they raise hell about not being accepted or even embraced by general society. That kid that dressed the way he did on AI was just asking to get ripped, and if he truly thought he wouldn't, or even expected to be hailed for his "courage", then he sure got a real quick, harsh dose of reality.

While I don't disagree with anything you or Clarity have said or asked of the rest of us members, I do think that it goes against everything that this site was founded on. If this has to change, where does it end? Eventually we will have to restructure the entire site.

Horseshit (no offense). We're asking for people to stop gay-bashing so that it doesn't tarnish (or further tarnish) BP's reputation, let alone its chances of cultivating any serious relationship with tOSU in parts or as a whole. Mililani can compare this to bashing of scUM, but nobody has ever complained about that, and we have gotten specific complaints with regard to all the "homo" talk. It is definitely NOT too much to ask to let this subject drop.

We might as well shut down the roper room, and the political board right now. Limit the talk here in open discussion to things such as what is your favorite food. Of course you won't be able to actually respond to anyone for fear that you might offend them. Instead just come on answer the question and then move on.

But on a side note, since it's an extremely rare occasion that I venture into the open discussion forum, I had no idea calling people homo's was bad. I've seen alot more serious and personally offensive racial shit go down on this site before, and I remember reading a post by clarity that rang to the tune of "assholes will be exposed for being assholes by the content of their posts" I didn't realize that policy changed. personally I really liked that policy because
1. It didn't water down any of the discussions
and
2. I got to find out who all the assholes were without them watering down their true feelings with PC bullshit. Since everybody has their own defn of what an asshole is, I think it works out real good.

That was actually one of the big reasons that I started becoming a daily visitor here.

I'm confused at this point. When is the use of the word 'homo' accetable?

The casual use like Thump does?

Calling a guy on Idol who clearly looks/dresses like a girl a homo?

Is this not acceptable in the Open Discussion forum?

I thought the Sports and Recruiting forums were the places where this is not acceptable.

Isn't the point of the OD to be able to joke around? I don't see where in this thread things are totally out of hand. I only see people taking things personally when they have no reason to.

PS: I am in total agreement that the use of these words is inappropriate outside the OD forums.
