Alumni Tickets - New 2008 Policy

Ugh.

If you've ordered something before through hangonsloopy.com, you should be able to do it now - I did mine without having received anything in the mail.

Ugh.

The Alumni Assoc. told me I had to wait until I recieved my application letter in the mail, but I called the ticket office anyway.

I had an OSU ticket account, but not my "Alumni Customer Account #" or PIN. But the girl at the ticket office looked my account up & gave me the info I needed to log in and apply on-line. So I assume I'm in the Lottery...now the wait.

first the students complaine about where they sit, then the media about how much they cost (bob hunter), now the alumni, lord knows the faculty are always complaining? who is left to bicker?

Anyone that doesn't like the restriction of not being able to bring your cigar-box guitar into the stadium.

Ohio State changes policy for alumni football tickets

Friday, May 02, 2008 Doug Lesmerises

Plain Dealer Reporter
Columbus- Some Ohio State fans are going to be mad.
"Whatever the ticket office does causes hard feelings," Leslie Croyle of Bay Village, whose husband graduated from Ohio State 36 years ago, said Thursday. "Unless everybody gets 50-yard line tickets, somebody is upset."
The Ohio State Alumni Association is prepared for that after adjusting its distribution of single-game alumni tickets to accommodate more alumni.

New alumni ticket process sucks balls

Last year there was a lot of whining in the alumni magazine by more recent grads about how "unfair" the ticket process was (because they didn't like the game they got). Well, unfortunately, Archie listened to them.

I got this year's application. There's no pre-assigned game. All members who apply will go into a random lottery.I may not even get a game, and if I do I won't know which one until August - good luck finding a hotel in Columbus by then.

Great fucking move, Archie. I'll lay anything they'll get MORE complaints now than last year.

Now if you'll excuse me I need to go make reservations for every home game.

You do make a couple valid points. The Alumni letter says that "the majority of their tickects will be for the Youngstown State and Ohio University games"; therefore, the "lottery winners" still won't like the game that they got. In addition to a hotel, if you need to fly into Columbus, (the way airline prices are going), good luck finding reasonable airfare by then too.

when hordes of 20 year alums don't get tickets and go apescat, this policy will be axed.

It's a shame it even has to come to that, but count me in as part of the horde.

I sent an email to the Association, for what it's worth:

While I appreciate the intent of the changes to the alumni ticket "lottery" I think you'll find the new policy will generate more complaints than the old one. The biggest problem with no pre-assigned game is the inability to book a hotel/flight if you don't live in the Columbus area. A lot of us don't live there, and our alumni game is an annual trip back to our alma mater. If I lived in Upper Arlington, the policy change wouldn't be a big deal. But for the rest of us, there's nothing positive to say about the new process.

Next time, try talking to someone who doesn't live in Columbus before making such a short-sighted change.

I think everyone should send a letter complaining about the new system. It's stupid. Why should there not be a reward for years of membership?

I'm not even a member of the Alumni Association yet, and I would be completely fine with not getting tickets for several years because I'm not senior enough. I really hope that they realize what a stupid mistake they've made and change it back.

The letter actually says you will get an email letting you know by July.

The concerns about traveling I believe are a honest concern, and one that I brought up in a letter I wrote to the Alumni Association also. Other than that, I think it is a good move. There are many people who never joined the Alumni Association because they knew they could not get tickets the last few years. This put everyone on an even playing Field, and should increase membership, which a good thing for the university as it tries to keep Alumni connected to the university.

I don't buy the whining hotel excuse. I used expedia to get a hotel room for the 04 Michigan game. When we got to the hotel, they didn't have my reservation at all...and the booking number expedia gave us didn't even match the numbers they use. So I'm standing in the lobby of a hotel in Columbus on the Friday before the Michigan game. They had plenty of rooms.

...and I've driven all the way around 270 until finally paying $120 for a Red Roof Inn for an Akron game after getting tix last minute. I think fewer people drive/fly in for the Michigan game than any other. The games before school starts are probably the hardest to get hotel rooms for.

Hotel reservations for most places can be made and then canceled without penalty.

Flights can be a real problem, but I don't see why people think that hotels are a significant issue.
