Alternatives to Time Warner cable in Columbus?

Anyone have insight? I'm moving to Gahanna in a few weeks and that's all I can get there :( what are your thoughts about them?
I moved to Gahanna above 7 years ago and have had Insight ever since. Had Time Warner before I moved. For the first couple years, extremely disappointed with Insight by reading all alternatives since I live in a condo. They have improved greatly over the past 3 years and I bundle. Have two DVR's and 3 HD TVs. With all of that, I still think they are pretty pricey but since you will be getting them as a new user the cost probably won't be too bad. The one thing that I would do is get a cost from AT&T before you call Insight unless that's too late. Inside will bargain with you a little but not much. Also, after the first year the price will go up quite a bit so you have to call and threaten them they probably will offer you new customer service again. There is service is out most of the time. For reference purposes, I live in the Hamilton & Morse Road area.

Good stuff. Just moved into The Vistas. I went with U-Verse. They're giving me $250 in a visa gift card and also it's cheaper than insight.

Moving into a new place on the 21st. Currently have AT&T U-Verse but just went through a ton of shit with them that has me less than happy (called to set up cancellation date, they cancelled my account immediately, had to start a brand new account that took over 24 hours and two technician visits to get up and running even though all of the shit was already installed and they just had to flip a fucking switch presumably).

AT&T was trying to entice me to renew and gave me a $30 credit for 6 months, which I might take, or a might just use it to bargain with someone else when I buy something new.

So my question is: stick with AT&T? or move to Time Warner, WOW!, or Insight (I think that's the other one).

Thoughts?

They may have outdone themselves this time.

I moved in the middle of August. I had TWC there, regrettably. I had autopay set up for bills. I now live happily elsewhere. Today I received a bill from TWC. It said it was for the balance that I paid at my old place, and it said autopay on it. Immediately pissed off, but I figured it would be easy to call in and get credit/money back.

Nope.

I call in and tell them something like "hey, I moved and I'm still paying for the service at my old apartment. This is the first bill I've received since moving. We have set up a new account here and I'd be fine with credit."

(I conveniently haven't been getting my credit card statements either, I've also called the credit card company about that, but that's a different thread)

"LOL WE CANT JUS GIV U MONEY IF U DINT CALL 2 CANCEL UR OLD ACCOUNT"

"I did call. You have my new address on the bill for service at my old address. Doesn't make any sense does it? Why would I call in to change my address, but not call in to cancel the service?"

"WELL IT SAIS U DIDN"

"Well, how did you get my new address"

"IDK BUT U DINT CALL"

"Ok. Just give me my credit and I'll be happy."

"I SRY CHRIS, I CANT DO DAT LOL"

"Just cancel that account and I'll go to the main office to deal with it."

"LOL K IS THERE ANYTING ELSE U NEED HELP WITH?"

"No."

"HAVE A NICE DAY LOL"

"..."

So they aren't planning me on giving me my money back for a few months of pay, despite me not living there and still being a fucking customer of their shitty service. I gave the equipment back and everything. They've fucked me.

Yep

I've talked to three different people (including a supervisor). They don't think I'm getting my money back.. but I'm going in-person tomorrow, so that should be fun. Not leaving until I get it.

The funny part is that they said I didn't call in at all. My current address was on the actual bill, not the envelope, so they got the address somehow. The address being on the bill = not a post office forward.

Fucking bullshit and I'm tired of them.

When you moved did you take the digital equipment with you?

Same thing happened to me with Comcast down here. I moved, and before I did I called them to transfer my service from the old address to the new address. The lady on the phone said it was all set up, just take my equipment to my new place and the tech will come out and make sure everything was hooked up.

Two days after moving into the new place, I noticed that Comcast had taken a payment out for service (I was/am set up on autopay), and really thought nothing of it until five days later another autopay hit in a different amount which prompted me to do some research. I called and found out what they had done was set up my new address as a new account to give me the discount for new customers (which was a nice thought), but never cancelled the old account so I essentially had 2 accounts I was paying. It took me a month and about 20 phone calls to get it all straightened out, but they ended up crediting my new account for the amount taken for the old account, and giving me 6 months free on top of that for my trouble.

Hope you get it worked out.

Yep, and they have it.

You didnt happen to use the equipment in your new place did you? I had the same thing happen to me, and after arguing with them for a few hours they gave me 4 months worth of free cable to make up for their error. I had kept the same box/modem that I was using at the previous address though.

*WARNING, SUPER LONG POST AHEAD*

I really hate TWC, I posted a few things about it in one of the threads around here...

I've had them twice, once when I was at Ohio St for a year and when I was just living in Charlotte for the past 3 months...both had major problems...

2008 at OSU:

I was rooming with my cousin in an apartment, I paid the cable bill...I move out a few months before the lease is up to go back to Florida, she stays there, and because she didn't have an HDTV we have to change service into her name and demote the service to standard TV, so we go the office return equipment, change service, etc. I was on autopay....so a month later, all of a sudden I see I have a charge on my bank for $120 or something like that...i'm like WTF I canceled...basically it went like this..

me:"Hi I am getting a charge on my credit for x amount but I put the service in my cousins name" *let's not forget we demoted the service to only basic cable which was like $30.*
stupid lady:"sorry, it's in her name, you have to talk to her about it"
me: "but i'm the one getting charge, we put the cable in her name cause I moved"
stupid lady:"sorry, but we can't do anything, you have to straighten it out with her"
me:"WHY, I AM THE ONE GETTING CHARGED, NOT HER, ME, I MOVED OUT AND CANCELED MY NAME"
stupid lady: "talk to her"
me: "whatever *click*"

I found out she got charged for her $30 bill or whatever, so essentially they double dipped us..I never got that charge removed.

Now, let's move on to 3 months ago when I move to Charlotte...I sign up my cable and sign up for something like HD, DVR, Internet for 89.99....

I get cable installed..a day later, I see I have 2 charges on my account for 89.99, so I go WTF...I call, they dunno why, but apparently somehow my card got used from someone, and was getting service using my number..ok they fixed that, no biggie..

Next month, I get a charge on my bank account for $150..WTF?!?!

So I call them, and I don't remember everything, but it took about 2 weeks and 5 phone calls for it to get it all straightened out, I had to call my bank a few times and tell them what was going on as well....

so I say fuck autopay and take off auto so they can't dick me over....

next month the bill is correct, so I pay online with my cc...a few days later, all of a sudden, I see a charge on my accout for amounts of $120 and $94 or something like that, again, WTF?!?!

So i call, and all they kept telling me was, it's not TWC charging..I told them I think someone has my cc# because of your crappy system
response: sir, it's now TWC doing the chargeing, your account doesn't show these amount
me:
1234931504682.jpg

THAT"S CAUSE SOMEONE ELSE IS USING MY CREDIT CARD NUMBER

So I call my bank and tell him my Card has been compromised, so they said ok, we'll issue you a new card and refund those charges (dear, TWC, SEE, NOT THAT DIFFICULT TO HAVE GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE)

so last bill I just pay by check...I move away cancel the service...

last week, I get another bill for the months of december (even though I canceled 2 weeks ago ) I ignore it, yesterday get another bill from them saying I have a $56 CREDIT, :slappy: can't wait to call them to see if there's a way they send me a check for it since I don't use their shitty service anymore

and all this doesn't include when they tried to charge me for internet service in 2008 when I wasn't using theirs (I tried theirs for a 30 day FREE trial) and also in Charlotte when I bought the sports pass (for BTN) and channels haden't come on after 3 days

I have TW on Frambes and don't have a problem with it. Wonder if it's your equipment. But I'm switching to WOW next year for BTN and I suggest you do the same. It's a little cheaper and I haven't heard any horror stories like other cable companies

BuckeyeMac;1221954; said:
My g/f has WOW here on Woodruff and has never had any problems with it. Her parents also have it and I haven't heard them complain about it once.

Here's their website:

I have WOW, and have had it for two years now. I have not had any real problems, and when I have they have been helpful in getting it fixed. My brother in law also has WOW, and the only problem he had was during the initial set up. Evidently they sent him soem dumbass to set things up, but since then he has not had any problems.

The internet, you get to choose 5 different speeds, and prices vary based on that. In the two years that I have had them, I have had to reset the modem maybe twice, and once was after a power surge in the apt. This is compared to when I had time warner and I felt that it was at least once a week that I was resetting the modem.

WOW is a good option, but I they aren't partnered with NBC so I can't watch live Olympic coverage online. It [censored]es me off because most softball games are being shown only in that manner.

There are no great cable companies. FWIW, we've had WOW (internet and cable) for several years and they screw you (as much as they can) if you allow them. The last several years we called and gripped about the price; and they either gave us the "new subscribers rate" and/or $5 a month discount for 12 months. Note: They just program the reduction in for a year (i.e. 12 months) so you have to call back evey year to "re-up" the discount/lower rate, etc. In addition, if you happen to be going on vacation for over 30 days you can get them to "suspend" your service for that time at a significantly reduced charge. They will do that 2 times a year.
