I have noticed that there are plenty of loyal bengal fans, and it only extends my sorrow when I realize that you are also calling yourself one of their "fans." With Tibor's mockery of student-athletes that are overhyped, one can only imagine his attitude towards paid athletes.

This thread was about jumping on the bandwagon. From my personal experiences with most Bengals fans, I have witnessed the following:

When the team fell into the pit, a LOT of Cincy fans begin to cheer for other teams. Many of them start wearing Dallas, Tampa Bay, Philly, Atlanta and Pittsburgh jerseys, hats, coats, etc. (depending on which team was good) and then would proceed to dog on me about the Browns. While they abandoned their team because of mediocre play, I was still in love with a franchise that was either a non-factor or not even in existence...I was still loyal.

Now that the Bengals have talent and hype, all of the sudden you hear "Who Dey" and you see Bungle gear all over. All of the fans that were afraid to show their face, are talking trash without any real substance (8-8???). I'm again hearing how the Bengals are vastly superior to the Browns, and it makes me wonder how long this will last.

Chances are, just like every other preseason where there is Bengal hype, the fans and media will talk Cincy up...and then abandon them at 1-4 for the newest pop-culture team of the year. Sure makes a group of fans easy to hate. I do understand that it's not all of the fans...which is why I was careful to say that I don't know any of you, but that I am targeting fair-weather fans.

I was talking to those of you who have been on Bengal fan boards (Even those of you getting banned :lol: ), following the team and dying with every loss on Sundays. I feel bad that a large group of followers has put a stigma on the entire fanbase. I guess, in my own special way, I am trying to rag on all the bandwagoners and tell them that I hope Cincy once again crashes and burns. It's probably a curse the NFL gods put on them because of the fair-weather fans.

For the people that lived and breathed Bengal football in the hard times...I'm not talking about you. If there are people jumping on now and hoping to reap the rewards of a promising season...F.O.A.D.

As far as the Tim Couch thing goes...those aren't fans either. Neither are the ones throwing beer bottles at games. I'm as emberassed about them as I am preseason Bungle fans, but what can you do?

I guess I'm one of those idealists that feel you should support a team no matter what their record is, or who the (insert position here...QB for example) is. I may complain about someone playing bad, but I don't abandon teams (like some Cincy "fans") or players (like some Browns "fans').

I... am a bengals fan.. I have gone to a couple bengals games.

I do not own any bengals gear.. I only own Buckeye gear.

I do not regularly watch ANY nfl games... the bengals made it hurt too much..

I was born in 82' I dont remember them ever playing well, but whenever someone asks.. I tell them I am a bengals fan.

Yes, I will root for other teams if they have one of my favorite buckeyes on the team.. But I couldnt care less about that TEAM..

I havent been in country since this little ressurgance is starting, but I do hope that one day I will get to cheer for my team and be proud of them.

I just dont know that I'll really believe it until after it happens..

Where were all of these Bengals fans 4-5 years ago. Seriously, where? Where? I go to BWs every first Sunday of the season, and this year, I saw a ton of Palmer, C. and R. Johnson jerseys, and even a Houshmandzadahahdhfah. But, 4-5 years, nobody. Not one person willing to admit to being a Bengals fan.

Screw Cincy and all it's teams from the Reds and Bengals, to the sorry Bearcats. We should give that city to Kentucky.

Ok, so maybe the schedule so far hasn't been really tough, but you have to be impressed with how they have taken care of business and won the games they're supposed to win.

Plenty more room on the Bengals' bandwagon for any of you fans of teams that are starting to go into the tank (Bills, Packers, Vikings, etc.) and those that were already in the tank and have stayed there (Browns, Lions, Texans). No Ravens fans welcome though. We do have standards here.

Because I'm obviously an Indians fan, right? :roll1:

The difference is that Browns fans don't disappear and therefore don't have anywhere to come out of. We've lived through the drive, the fumble, the move and Butch Davis...several down years isn't going to drive us off.

With as easy of a schedule as most of the AFC North has this year, the Bungles would have to really choke to finish 8-8 or worse.

Dang, I hate the Bungles and all their fair-weathered followers.

Personally, I don't remember seeing too many Browns fans from 1996-1998. :biggrin:

I love the phrase "several down years". The Browns haven't played for an NFL Championship/Super Bowl since before 'Nam; so unless several=40 on the banks of the Cuyahoga, I think this is one of the biggest understatements I've ever heard.

In response to the Bengals fans you know, they sure are different than the ones I know. My brother and three close friends (two of whom are Thump and Buckeyefool) have been Bengals fans since the days of Kenny Anderson and Chris Collinsworth. Over the last 13 years, I have not seen any of these guys waiver regarding the Bengals. They are true fans and have never once thought of abandoning the team for Dallas, Denver, or New England.

Perhaps it is people like me that you are mistaking for being Bengals band-wagoners. My team is and always has been Oakland, but since they suck, I'm pulling for the Bengals this year. (This does not mean I am abandoning Oakland, since I still cheer for them every week.) I'm not planning on buying any Cincinnati merchandise, I just want to see them go far this year because I am a Reds fan and like the city of Cincinnati, I've seen my friends suffer long enough, and I know it would really piss off you Browns fans because you can't handle playing second fiddle to them in the state when it comes to actually producing on the field.

(In only a slightly related note, have I mentioned lately that I am thankful that I only have to live one more week in this shit hole known as Cuyahoga County!)

Oh, and don't be on here spouting off after they go 1-0, because Cleveland should be a gimmie this year. While I don't deny the Bengals have 10-12 win talent, I will reiterate my belief that they are a cursed franchise and will find a way to go .500 or sub...yet again. I can't wait.

While I know my team is terrible...I'll still be watching every available Browns game and proudly wearing my brown and orange around town. These dipwads aren't real Bengals fans, you shouldn't label them as such. I might have gotten so frustrated w/ Bengals that I could not stand watching them in the late 90's and early 00's, but I never considered switching teams, "adopting" another team-although I have always enjoyed the Raiders, and watching Favre w/ the Packers-too bad his last season will be a nightmare-or buying a Skins or some other frontrunner jersey like the Eagles or whatnot. To be honest, I have not seen a lot of switching teams in SW Ohio-people in Dayton are pretty loyal to their teams-Bengals, Squeelers, or Clowns. The announcers today for the game-Randy Cross and ???-were very impressed by the fact that the Bengals could average 52,000 fans a game in the 90's, given the pathetic product put on the field. People now are simply relieved that the Bengals are operating like a normal NFL franchise under Lewis. I think the Bengals are a headhunting SS for the run, and an improved pass rush from the DL away from the Super Bowl.
I want the Browns to continue to suck-and I think they will-so their fans can understand what Bengals fans went through before Lewis and Palmer came to town.

Fuck anyone who calls us fair weather fans, being only 23 and growing rooting for the bengals with my dad I have almost grown to hate the NFL because I am sick of watching loss after loss.. Now they are GOOD holyshit, I have a hard time even believing it but damn am I happy about it... shit I even wore a Bengals starter jacket back when they were going 2-14... so the clowns fans can go all go to hell, or follow their team to baltimore.. whichever..

I have been a bengal fan win or lose and i sure took the loses just as I did when Scum whipped tosu under Coper era, so I know the ribbing I took. Now all the Steeler fans and Clown fans are saying wait till you all play a good offensive team. What 3-0 isn't good or we have the most points in the NFL. Here is to all the Haters of Who Dey

STFU and go jump on something that goes Cho Cho maybe Tampa Bay
