Alabama Crimson Tide (official thread of Football, Fake Championships and Banjo)

The curse of the B1G Ten East. There may not be a bigger disparity in talent between the top half and the bottom half in any other division of any conference in CFB. Adding Maryland and Rutgers was galactically stupid.

But hey, at least there were a fuck ton of TV sets on the Atlantic coast tuned in to watch Ohio St struggle with Maryland and everyone gets $55 million this year for it!
You can literally say that about every conference in CFB. It's always been the haves and have nots and never changes. CFB has never believed in any type of long term parity

2018 overall opponent record:

Georgia 97-60
Clemson 89-66
Alabama 85-72
Oklahoma 82-74
Notre Dame 77-69
Ohio State 75-82
UCF 70-76
I agree with some of the insinuation of this; mainly that OSU's schedule was not especially tough this year, and the BigTen as a whole was a bit down this year. But "overall opponent record" is a hamfisted and generally unreliable measure of schedule difficulty, in my view, especially when looking at non-conference games. To take one minor example, compare Clemson's win over 9-3 Georgia Southern to Alabama's win over 2-10 Louisville and OSU's win over 2-10 Oregon State. I know nothing about Georgia Southern, and it's entirely possible that they're better than Louisville and Oregon State. But I highly doubt that they're 9-3 vs. 2-10 better than Louisville and Oregon State. Stated more generally, when you just look at opponents' records, there's a lot of missing context.

especially when looking at non-conference games

I think conf games are just as bad because of the 9th game... on average our opponents will have 4.5 more losses. Throw in OrSt and TCU playing in 9game conferences brings that to 5.5 on average.
That number could actually be anywhere from 0 to 11 more losses depending on how you analyze it.
If we played an SEC schedule, those numbers could just as well be 86-71.

Report: Alabama QB Jalen Hurts now in NCAA transfer portal

gettyimages-1046696022-e1538856257916.jpg

The player who would be the “biggest free agent in college football history” is one step closer to coming onto the market.

According to 247Sports.com‘s Barton Simmons, Jalen Hurts‘ name is now listed in the NCAA transfer portal system. The move allows other football programs to contact the quarterback without receiving permission from Alabama first.

While the move doesn’t necessarily mean Hurts will definitely transfer — he could always remove his name and return to the Crimson Tide — it has in the past usually ended with the player moving on to another school.

Hurts graduated from Alabama in December, meaning he could move on to another FBS program and be immediately eligible to play in 2019. The upcoming season will be the true junior’s final year of eligibility.

As for potential landing spots? There are a handful of places that make sense, but there’s been a significant amount of speculation over the past few weeks that rival Auburn, which is losing its starting quarterback to the NFL and has no clear-cut replacement in-house, is very much a viable option.
