If anyone continues to tilt at the “amateurism” windmill they are going to be frustrated.Honestly, the only shocking thing about NIL is that it didn’t happen earlier. SMU’s Pony Express occurred in 1982! And that was freaking Southern Methodist, with players being paid by government officials! Universities have never been able to control football programs. How many scandals have CFB programs had other the years? it’s a crazy amount for the ones we know about. Heck, there are even D2 programs whos university’s can’t control, and even HS! Blue Chips was a fictional movie based off of real stories, and that was made 30yrs ago.
I think fans could stomach players getting money when they didn’t know about. And they could act like their program was “clean” if they weren’t constantly in scandals. And the ”dirty” programs were ridiculed but their fans didn’t care, they just accepted it. Well now, all fans need to realize that for their team to be successful, their players will now be openly paid, and tbh, nothing has really changed. The best teams still get the best talent and have the best facilities. Even without NIL, Treveyon Henderson wasn’t going to UVA or NC State, just like CJ Stroud would’ve never ended up at Arizona orUCLA
