Alabama Crimson Tide (official thread of Football, Fake Championships and Banjo)

Who’ll be their QB next year?
We saw their backup and I don’t see that happening for the whole year.

It’s going to be a young’in. And they’re going to inexperienced all over the team. And I don’t see a young talent at QB like Tua there now. But it’s hard to ever rule out this team

They have the #9 and #11 QBs incoming. I don't think either screams "elite" as a true freshman.

Ty Simpson was the #3 QB in last years class. He only threw 5 passes this year though and was the clear #3 behind Milroe for this season. Simpson has the better arm talent though, Milroe is more of a runner than a passer. So i'd probably wager that Simpson wins the job for 2023.

But who? Most top transfer QBs already have their home
Yeah, I’m sure Saban would like to utilize one of his young formerly highly ranked QBs. And combine them with top transfers at the skill positions along with formerly highly ranked ones. It will help that he has some elite OL like always up front

Alabama Reaches Unique NIL Deal With Sports Marketing Giant

At many college towns around the country, Learfield, the sports marketing giant, operates from small satellite offices, usually housing a team of local salespeople working from an on-campus location.

At least one of Learfield’s local offices will soon have a new look.

As part of a new 15-year agreement with Alabama that it announced Tuesday, Learfield, in conjunction with the university, is creating a dedicated hub for name, image and likeness (NIL) called The Advantage Center, an epicenter for Crimson Tide athletes’ NIL endeavors that the company believes is a first nationally. The Advantage Center, with a goal of opening this calendar year, will be located inside Bryant Denny Stadium and will double as the agency’s local office, says Learfield CEO Cole Gahagan.

Learfield and Alabama plan to collaborate on the development of the center to provide both a physical home and a staff to educate athletes on NIL opportunities and showcase successful local and national NIL-related relationships.

In renderings provided to Sports Illustrated, the Advantage Center is expected to include a host of NIL-related features: a digital ticker announcing the latest news in athlete deals; a studio with a green screen to provide athletes a place to shoot NIL-related videos; a wall dedicated to Alabama player NIL deals and opportunities; and meeting space to possibly help facilitate brand-and-athlete relationships.

Alabama coach Nick Saban has zeroed in on Notre Dame offensive coordinator Tommy Rees as his top target for the same position on the Crimson Tide's coaching staff, reports ESPN's Chris Low. Rees has served as the Fighting Irish's offensive coordinator since 2020 and as their quarterbacks coach since 2017. If hired, Rees would take over for former Alabama offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien, who returned to the NFL with the New England Patriots recently.

"Rees has had discussions with Nick Saban and is scheduled to be on campus Thursday, sources tell ESPN," Low wrote on Twitter. "Saban is looking to replace Bill O’Brien, who left for the Patriots’ OC job."

Needles to say, that probably doesn't doesn't make Marcus Freeman too happy. However, in 2021 it was reported that he turned down a $400K raise to got to LSU with Kelly. He wanted to stay at Notre Dame.

Just sayin': These days not only do you have to keep recruiting your existing players to prevent them from transferring to another school for a better NIL deal; (in some cases) you might also have to keep renegotiating contracts of your best assistant coaches to keep them too.

Yes and no. Rees was a bad fit for ND under Freeman from Day 1. ND wanted to keep Rees, and Freeman did not. So in essence, this is a gift for Freeman. Especially since Rees has been the fall guy for ND's early poor play. Freeman is probably packing Rees' bags.
But OSU needed to do everything to keep a guy like Hartline on staff

Color me naive. I know this sort of thing did not start with NIL, but NIL has taken any notion of amateurism out of college sports and further erodes what little control the universities had over the programs. AND unlike the professional leagues who control the draft, trade deadlines, free agent eligibility, colleges and the NCAA control little more the playing rules.

Honestly, the only shocking thing about NIL is that it didn’t happen earlier. SMU’s Pony Express occurred in 1982! And that was freaking Southern Methodist, with players being paid by government officials! Universities have never been able to control football programs. How many scandals have CFB programs had other the years? it’s a crazy amount for the ones we know about. Heck, there are even D2 programs whos university’s can’t control, and even HS! Blue Chips was a fictional movie based off of real stories, and that was made 30yrs ago.
I think fans could stomach players getting money when they didn’t know about. And they could act like their program was “clean” if they weren’t constantly in scandals. And the ”dirty” programs were ridiculed but their fans didn’t care, they just accepted it. Well now, all fans need to realize that for their team to be successful, their players will now be openly paid, and tbh, nothing has really changed. The best teams still get the best talent and have the best facilities. Even without NIL, Treveyon Henderson wasn’t going to UVA or NC State, just like CJ Stroud would’ve never ended up at Arizona orUCLA

So amusingly enough ND fans might actually be happy with that move not sure about Alabama fans. But ND fans aren't happy with Reese's play calling or recruiting

Yeah, I remember this:

Notre Dame QB Drew Pyne gets ripped by offensive coordinator after rough start to game

Regardless....

UPDATE: Sources tell FootballScoop that Notre Dame's Tommy Rees has been offered Alabama's offensive coordinator position

Later Thursday afternoon, sources told FootballScoop that Alabama has already issued a preliminary job offer to Rees to become the Crimson Tide's offensive coordinator.

Additional sources have told FootballScoop that the situation is not believed to be one about money; in fact, per sources, the initial Alabama offer to Rees was in the range of $2 million per year, on average.

For context, sources both last year when Rees remained at Notre Dame rather than take over Brian Kelly's LSU offense and again this week have indicated that Rees's revamped Notre Dame deal paid him a ballpark average of $2 million per year across a three-year terms.

Both Rees and Irish defensive coordinator Al Golden were the only Irish assistant coaches with three-year terms.

Sources told FootballScoop that Rees was accompanied by his fiance Thursday afternoon on Alabama's private jet that picked him up at South Bend's local private air hangar.

Alabama fans can track the plane here:
