Just sayin': If they cancelled the flight you should be entitled to a full refund.

I'm sitting at the airport watching the TV screen. It won't help you today; but, Delta is starting a nonstop flight to Salt Lake in June 2019.

Hope United flights CMH - EWR - EZE are on time today.
I believe weather related cancellations absolve the airline from refunds. This is what makes it so suspect with all the other activity at the same time into Midway. I understand that SJC is a Delta hub, so that makes sense.

You are correct, but Southwest has had a rash of maintenance issues stemming from A CBS report that came out a week or so ago. They (Southwest) is in a tussle with the mechanics union regarding working conditions, amount of hours worked in a day/week and the frequent call ins they are having because the maintenance issues. If I remember correctly the CBS report stated that Southwest had to cancel over 5% of their flights because of maintenance. Airlines are not above cancelling a flight citing weather when another issue is clearly the culpruit so that they don't have to pay out refunds. Southwest a long time ago was one of the good guys but now they are as bad as the rest of the major carriers....

They cancelled the flight (regardless of the reason), not you. I believe that you are due a full refund (if you choose); and not a voucher on another flight. The weather rule is for additional liability (i.e. book on anther airline's more expensive flight, hotel, meals, ground transportation, delay penality, etc.). You bought a ticket for a specific flight (not for a voucher) and the airlines didn't deliver. I'd call the airlines and tell them I want full refund; and if they refuse, I'd despute the charge with my credit card company.

Made it to EWR; the flight from CMH was only an hour late leaving. Using a couple free passes for the United Club for the wait here.....8D

Script is correct, they owe you a refund on the ticket for weather related cancellations but not for other expenses. I need to start reading a little slower as I completely missed what buckeyebri wrote.....

Nah... Southwest has always been a negative force leading the way to the bottom for US airlines.
Subcontracting aircrews and maintenance.
I did avionics for one such subcontractor for 4 months. It was a fly by night operation... chop shop mentality.
They were trading 737 classics to Chinese airlines for 737 nextgens, in order to comply w/Boeing contract rules to start buying the new 737 max lineup.
The Chinese dont have an FAA ... so the NGs they were getting were trashed. Went out to work on one and it was boarded up for rats... not American rats either. There were pellets everywhere. Another had leaking pipes from the lavatory... the entire electronics bay was coated in a layer of human ass juice. We'd find tools, screws, nuts, etc all over the wheel wells. They routed wires over screw heads (aircraft vibrate... it's going to eat through the wire in a couple years of daily use)
Southwest altered the contract so subcontractor had to eat cost of any added maintenance (ie things discovered out of FAA compliance). This company was already in the hot seat with FAA too.
I got out of there fast before somebody died. 2 months later that turbofan went through a fuselage. It was one of the Chinese trades.
Refuse to fly on them.
Not surprised the Southwest direct employees are in revolt. The company promotes shoddy work.

We also did mods for American, United, and Alaska. Mostly updating 777s to have 'economy plus'. Very different vibe. Their reps insisted FAA regs be followed exactly and happy to let us fix discovered issues (unlike SW telling you to ignore obvious defects and effectively penalizing employer for fixing then IAW FAA).

Southwest is breaking into the Hawaii market, starting with flights between Honolulu and the West Coast this month. After reading your post, I think I'll be skipping SWA...

Shit man, I’m flying Southwest to Vegas in May. Hopefully the damn thing goes down AFTER I lose all my money.
