Anyone else getting the research survey pop-up?

I get that all the time. I also get the ad monkey adds expanding and starting every time I scroll down a page.

I just got a new one..I opened up chrome and my usual three tabs opened. When I clicked on the BP tab I got a warning message from "slightyd?" saying my Java was out of date. I closed it and it took my BP tab to some unofficial java download page.

I don't like the sound of that one at all. Any more information you or anyone else can provide to help track it down would be helpful.

What browser do you use? If it's chrome or Firefox, are you able to use debug or Firebug (respectively) to figure out what position and as is provoking that survey.

Obviously we're configured to get none of those, but they still slip through. Them it's a matter of figuring out where.

I will. It only happened once yesterday and hasn't occurred so far today. If it happens again I'll try to provide a screen shot.

I think I've tracked it down, and have contacted the ad partner. If I don't hear from them, then I'll cut them out completely.

It was IE10 at work (on AFNet).

Hm, not sure if that has a Firebug or debug equivalent.

No question, the actual ad code is *by far* the most useful information I can get. That instantly identifies the ad partner, and for them, identifies the bad campaign so they can instantly squash it.

I think I might find or write up a guide for this on the new site. My biggest problem sometimes is just not being able to reproduce a bad ad on my own system so I can pull that data.

The only good thing about those is they actually honor requests to opt out of ever receiving them again. Which, sadly, is far more effective than my nearly once a week effort to stomp them the hell out of the constantly changing ad campaigns on which they improperly piggyback.

So if you get one, take a sec to opt out. You'll be sparing yourself any more from here and every other site they plague.

So the "opt out" actually works? I was concerned that it was actually a link to something else...

No, I've tried it myself and inquired about it elsewhere. It's a legit opt-out. They even have an option to block their own cookies from your browser, which is nice.

The companies that use that survey place are shitty, but the survey company itself seems pretty solid.

I don't know if this has been mentioned before but this happens every so often when using chrome. When I get done viewing a thread I go to the top of the page to click the forums tab, whatever banner ad is up at the time will open in a new window and BP will not take me back to the main forum page. This will go on and on unless I refresh the page. Just letting you know.
