ABC Switch Discussion (Merged)

i've taped the games ever since the 2002 OSU-Mich. game so i can go back years later and look back at "that year" and i would get pissed to be taping 2 and a half hours in and them change over to another game because its a blowout, i've never had this problem since i live in columbus and ABC wouldn't think of doing a switch in columbus for a OSU game

Yeah, MIami was just about ready to come back. :roll1:

I have a funny feeling that if ABC had cut away from the OSU/PSU game in 1994 with PSU up 63-6, nobody would have cared. :roll1:

i would have cared. i still have the 04 tOSU iowa game on tape. have watched it roughly 6 times now. *shrug* gives me something to do while i work out. im a buck fan through victory and defeat. please feel free to stop telling me what i do and do not care about at your earliest convenience. mmmkay thanks buh-bye.

Personally, I don't think you should cut away from a game for any circumstances. Its not professional, every once in a blue moon you get comebacks, and you're alienating the audience who's stuck with your programming for 2+ hours in the hopes of adding channel surfers.

Nobody tuning in wants to see an unadvertised game. There was not one Oklahoma or TCU fan glued to the 1st half of the OSU game in hopes of a blowout and a cut-away to their game.

Anybody with any interest in seeing the Oklahoma game was probably watching it somewhere else.

Yes, I was in a hotel room in Charleston, SC and got to watch some of the game. My son also plays on Saturday so I was recording the game at home so I could watch it on Labor Day. Imagine my surprise when Oklahoma showed up on my screen. I can see going to a potential upset when there are a couple of minutes left (5-6 minutes) in the game. But didn't ABC almost show the whole second half of the game? I guess I really shouldn't bitch since OSU did win, and I haven't shelled out $100+ for Game Plan, but when you are a die hard Buck fan you kinda lose perspective.

Off the top of my head:

largest major college comeback:

31 points - tOSU vs Minny
31 points - Md vs Miami (Frank Reich QB)

Largest NFL comeback:

32 points - Buffalo vs Houston (Frank Reich QB)

Couldn't resist, Sloop.

Here's my takes on the ABC Switch:

1. My Dad usually drives about an hour/hour & a half from his house in NJ to watch the games with me here in CT. When people make plans to watch these games, and in some cases travel distances to watch them, its a stupid thing to switch to something else when you've advertised something else all week. He basically drove three hours to see one & a half hours of football.

that is a great point!

no i think the point of regional coverage is to highlight and make your local team the primary game and show it. Once the game is really over and you got a top ten team being upset its not exactly that crazy to switch over. I mean i was actually leaving the house after we went up 27-0 because i went to get a head start on some work and didnt find out they switched untill later. i think a lot of you should find more to do than watch the second team get scored on during blow-outs...........

Who are you to tell people what they should do with their saturday? maybe everyone else had gotten what they needed done, done before the game and wanted to sit back relax and enjoy the game. And there have been plenty of teams that have come back. Hell did ABC learn nothing from heidi-gate that happened to NBC? So if you had something else you needed to do thats fine, but don't sit here and tell other people what they should do with their day

I got up early and mowed my grass at 9A M just so I'd have it done for game time. Pics to follow.....

Since the Heidi game happened before Watergate, it wasn't referred to as "Heidi-gate".

And I just like to point out anachronisms. It's easier for us old farts to spot them.

It's an inside joke from a thread I started during the ice storm back in December.

A little self-deprecating humor.
