ABC Switch Discussion (Merged)

Anytime you demoralize yourself it's acceptable in my book...of course I wasn't a member in December (good rhyme) so I wouldn't have known

Click on my username and look up threads I've started and it was started in december.

I forget the title, "Ice Storm pics" or something like that.

I've caught hell for it ever since and rightfully so.

ABC handled their football coverage this weekend about as well as Hester fields a kick.

While the regional switch away from OSU/Miami to Oklahoma/TCU for anyone east of the Mississippi was a travashamockery, the bigger problem flooding ABC's inbox this week was failing to show a good portion of the 4th quarter in the A&M/Clemson game, such as Clemson's game winning drive, because of the ABC News interruption regarding the death of Chief Justice Rehnquist. A Supreme Court Justice's passing is pretty big news and warrants a cut-away during a TV-timeout or change-of-possession, but the network didn't need to run its 10-minute canned biography right then and there.

Oh, and this just in ... those in the Pacific Northwest are complaining about getting switched away from OU/TCU in the middle of the 4th quarter to get BC/BYU. :p

I could probably add the TV-ratings inspired decision to move the Miami/FSU game from late-October to early-September, which has now given us three straight years of declining QB play and completely inept special teams.

In Chicago, which is east of the Mississippi (but 'down' from Texas if you're VY), we saw the entire tOSU game, so I was happy. But as soon as it was over, I wanted to see the end of the Okla-TCU game. ABC instead showed the start of scUM-NIU, wihch is understandable since Chicago is in Northern Illinois, but I would have preferred to see the bigger national storyline.

Sports bars really are a good solution.

Possible good news from ABC:

It looks like ABC is now going to air the Texas tOSU game in HD, which they originally were not going to do.

Atonement?

This is perfect, as I tried to make reservations at Blondies here (the official Ohio State football bar) and they were sold out - 1 hour after opening up the lines. . .

If ABC had prompted GamePlan to open up the game to markets not showing the game (e.g., Hawaii) prior to switching and then when announcing they were switching to the TCU-OU game mentioning that the Ohio State game would be available on the GamePlan channel, I wouldn't have minded much. They fact that the clusterfucks caused me to miss almost 30% of the game, including Boeckman's first career TD pass, is not acceptable.

Personally, I don't think you should cut away from a game for any circumstances. Its not professional, every once in a blue moon you get comebacks, and you're alienating the audience who's stuck with your programming for 2+ hours in the hopes of adding channel surfers.

Nobody tuning in wants to see an unadvertised game. There was not one Oklahoma or TCU fan glued to the 1st half of the OSU game in hopes of a blowout and a cut-away to their game.

Anybody with any interest in seeing the Oklahoma game was probably watching it somewhere else.

what stupid logic. yeah, once a station switches to another game, there is a law forbiding them from changing back if the game is closer.

And of course, there were plenty of fans that had no interest in seeing OU/TCU...but they did have interest once the game was close near the end. Did I see one lick of scUM's game? No. Would I have if the game was tied 16-16 in the 4th quarter? of course.

I have a feeling a lot of you would probably be upset if the station broke away to report on Katrina or the Chief Justice dying. You know, important stuff.

I have an idea...if you want to guarentee you wont' miss a play...get your lazy and cheap ass to the game and watch in person. Problem solved.

Agreed. Call DirecTV and complain... it worked for me.

My lazy cheap ass already pays $150 for that guarantee. I just didn't receive the service I paid for.

Typically then if you pay for something and do not receive what you paid for you're OK with that? If so, I'd like to discuss my lynching insurance plan with you. For just $299 a month I will personally guarantee that you will not get your ass kicked by some internet message board poster from the lower 48 that you managed to piss off. For an additional $19.95/month rider I will even ensure you against people flying to Pittsburgh from Hawaii for the sole purpose of kicking your ass.

Considering your reputation on this and other boards I think $318.95 is a bargain, but because I really don't like you I'll even throw in a 10% discount bringing your total to $287.05/month

Some restrictions apply, see the bottom of my shoe for details. Offer not valid if I have something better to do that day. Offer not valid if you misspell 'guarantee' in your original post or put the apostrophe in "won't" in the wrong place.
