A Split National Championship in 2008?

Look at Georgia's schedule it's just as bad or worse than ours. They played two ranked teams and no one else with a pulse.

Nonconference-wise, it's worse, and that's really saying something...but I would submit that South Carolina and Florida are both a hell of a lot better than any team we've played. Bottom-feeder-wise, it is about even, but we haven't played anyone good all season, really. Which isn't our fault, the conference (and Cal) just sucks this year.

If UGA is in the top 2 in both the coaches and the AP, that alone would make it nearly impossible for UF to surpass them (they tweaked in the BCS formula in '01 after Joey Harrington got shutout just for this reason). But also keep in mind that tOSU could potentially be standing in the way of UF getting to number three in the AP.

In the scenarios I was talking about, Georgia would never be #2 in either poll going into bowl season if they lost to Georgia Tech, even if they won the SEC title game. If they win out, they would be ranked that high, but would only have 1 loss.

There are lots of different ways, but this is the most simple, and most realistic:

1) Ohio State beats Michigan (duh)... the bigger the win the better
2) Notre Dame loses at USC
3) Georgia beats Bama in the SECCG, goes to NCG.
4) Stanford wins out, shuts Oregon out of the Pac12 Champ game. Oregon struggles against Oregon St (don't have to lose, but a struggle would help).
5) FSU beats Florida (barely), DESTROYS Miami in the ACC Champ game. Sneaks into the BCS Champ game riding those wins.

If this happens, this would probably be the AP top 5 heading into the bowls:
1) UGA (1 loss)
2) Ohio St (undefeated)
3) FSU (1 loss)
4) Oregon (1 loss)
5) Kansas St (1 loss)

In the bowls:
-Oregon plays a pissed off KSU team in the Fiesta bowl and loses.
-FSU wins a sloppy, boring game over Georgia, wins BCS
-Nebraska beats Stanford to win the Rose Bowl

Boom, Ohio State is the AP National Champ... a fan can dream

In your reply, you specifically mentioned the scenario of BCS computers allowing UF to jump a two loss UGA:

It's all about the computer rankings...remember whoever finishes 1 and 2 play in the title game, they don't get to pick like they do the other bowl games.

Between a two loss UGA team that beat both Bama and UF, and an one loss UF team, the AP and the coaches would go with UGA.

Dude, SC has two loses and almost lost to fucking Wofford.

Yes...and given that one of those losses would be at the end of the season to a 4 loss GT team? I disagree. Completely.

#4 is all wrong because Stanford and Oregon cannot meet in the PAC12 title game. UCLA has clinched one side, either Stanford or Oregon gets the other bid. Right now that would be Stanford, so if Oregon beats Oregon State they would finish 11-1.

As for Free Shoes making the title game, I can't see a 1 loss ACC team making the title game ever, but I guess stranger things have happened. They would probably have to annihilate Florida first, which might push them past an 11-1 Oregon and/or an 11-1 Notre Dame team.

Then we respectfully disagree. But I will say that UF's got a tough game ahead for them as well....

Which would just bolster their case to jump some teams (if they win it) in the scenarios I was talking about. Alternatively, if FSU wins out, they could have a case as well if SEC teams and ND start dropping games.

Notre Dame...Anyone expect them to beat USC? I could see it happening.
Which would make me so angry OSU has a bowl ban...That could have been Ohio State playing Notre Dame for the title.

Or...it could be a one loss Alabama team playing for the title and either an undefeated ND or Ohio State getting left out. That would incite some riots somewhere, but it is a plausible scenario as well. We'll never know, unfortunately.

I remember laughing at Auburn. I would not want the Bucks to make the argument and be laughed down for many of the reasons already posted.

However, we would beat ND & after watching "Johnny Football" Braxton could give Alabama a fit with 30 days to prepare.

A shame.

Should have taken the ban last year. Thanks Gene, TP, JT (ugh. I love the man and the coach but WTF dude.), and everyone else. Selling your gold pants for pizza, pot, tats? Jesus Fuck.

Ehhhh I'm not so sure about South Carolina and Florida being better than anyone we've played. Nebraska and Wisconsin would definitely give either team a good game. Sparty too. Outside of Alabama I'm not too impressed with the SEC and definitely think they're living off the rep of years past.
