a grammatical peccadillo/Mispronounciations MERGED

Interesting, per my dictionary it IS pronounced more like "car" than like "care". The dictionary has an a with a little concave dash over it and gives examples for that phoenetic symbol of "pat", "plaid", "half", and "laugh".

But I still MIGHT be a redneck . . .

Does a 'concave dash' look like this?

care Pronunciation Key (kâr)

But dictionary.com does list 'gar' with 2 dots over the 'a' (like 'car') as a secondary pronunciation for guarantee.

It is interesting. The pronunciation key for guarantee is like the 'a' sound in half, which has a different symbol than the sound in both care and car.

I haven't seen anything listed here yet that even rivals the use of the word:

"supposebly"

Like in, "USC was supposebly the greatest team in the history of College Football until they got their (not there or they're) asses beat by Texas."

That one makes me want to puke, and I point that out to ANY person in ANY setting that uses it. It disgusts me.

By the way, I would like to point out that whoever named this thread "a grammatical peccadillo/Mispronounciations" spelled mispronunciations wrong. :wink2:

Can we add malapropisms to the thread title so that I can contribute more of my Bob Davie and Lee Corso worship?
