a grammatical peccadillo/Mispronounciations MERGED

nu-cu-lar... I thought you might appreciate that one Sushi :wink2:
That's the one that drives me crazy. It's not just the president though. I hear that everywhere. My brother-in-law spent six years as a nuclear technician on a sub in the Navy, and yet he still can't stop saying "nucular". It's maddening.

My mother (native of Florida) has a couple of good ones:
1. "valunteer" instead of volunteer.
2. "werter" instead of water.

And my dad used to always tell me to "warsh" the car. :!

I like saying 'yay-hoo' when refering to a person - but the website is clearly 'yah-hoo'.

I've adopted the 'eye'-talian pronunciation, but don't always use it. Somehow, I prefer it.

There's a news guy in CO that says industry (in-dus'-tree). I always thought is was (in'-dus-tree). I know it's (in-dus'-tree-al), but doesn't the emphasis shift to 'in' when saying industry? Please help.

Speaking of athletes..

Chris Everett, instead of Evert.

Jack Nicholas, instead of Nicklaus.

I think they each have 18 Grand Slam titles...coincidence?

I can prolly think of a few.

I know a ton of people who pronounce "Chipotle" as "Chipolte" as in Nick Nolte.
That is bad, even worse I work with a lady who pronounces it as
"Chipotal" as in Total.

Sometimes it is just a regional thing. Like all the Pittsburgh people who say
Dontown, or Stillers.

Proper pronunciation of industry is none of your 'biness'.

My fiancee horribly butchers everything -- she's never met a word she couldn't mispronounce, it's like living with Bob Davie. Around halloween of last year our five year old son commented on some halloween decorations in a yard as we were driving down the street, and my fiancee turns around to start correcting his grammar and pronuciation. I had to cut her off to explain that our five year old forms sentences better than her, and she should stop pushing her Bremen/Rushville education on him. :wink2:

The O-hi-ya pronunciation that bothers me most is saying "crick" for "creek."
