97.1 The Fan (official thread)

Casual fans don't want to be taught, they want to agree. That's why radio programs are negative and mindless.
Bill King's show on Sirius is an interesting twist on this. Most of the show is nationwide fans (mostly truck drivers, since they're the biggest buyers of satellite radios) calling in and giving their moronic views, but he also has some extremely knowledgeable guests that make listening worthwhile, especially since you can listen via podcast after the fact at www.billisking.com.

I really liked Bruce Hooley, and I miss having him on the air. Abrasive and negative? Sure, but he was also willing to voice unpopular opinions that got you thinking.

 Since when has talk radio involved any intelligent discussion? Where the [censored] have I been?
You've been on 97.1 for way too long, dude.

There's a world with intelligent talk radio out there? Holy [Mark May]! I respect your vision for smart talk radio and wish you the best in your quest to find it, sir.
This is dumb. Yes, there is good sports radio/podcasts out there.. not too hard to find.. in years past, 1460 wasn't nearly as shitty as pointed out by VBSJ... think before you spout off:

Morning: Miller and Mark / Mike and Mike
Mid-Morning: Tony Kornheiser
Noon: Jim Rome / Dan Patrick
Afternoon: Spielman & Someone Else
Drive: Tim Benz/Fitzsimmons & Herbstreit

Dan Patrick has free apps to tune in, Van Pelt is 10,000x better than Rothman & Bishop/Stanley, and it goes on and on.. yes, believe it or not, not all sports radio is of the ESPN brand of retardness - see ( http://www.buckeyeplanet.com/forum/...n-looking-stupid-again-thread-perpetuity.html )for examples of ESPN programming.

Posters that were mentioned in the above post, do you disagree with the stuff that Coqui posts below? Because that is what they say on the show.
They say SO much more than those 4 or 5 talking points. Most of which, is incorrect. I can't tell you how many times I've heard Rothman, Torg, Stanley, etc. tell me something over the air waves this is out & out WRONG & INCORRECT - I know this because I come here and get real news a week before it "breaks" on 97.1

I could not disagree with this more.

Wah Wah Wah.. wishing desmond would go away is one of the few smart things these idiots have ever said.

Are they there for entertainment? sure thats great, then go to a morning show where you can tell stupid jokes and play fart sounds. I am listening to sports radio, I want someone who actually knows sports. Preferably someone who knows more about it than I do. I dont want to hear stories "broken" a week after I already knew about them from a free buckeye website. give me analysis and real discussion.

oh and I still dont like herbie either.
This. 100%.

As for the sorry excuse for "analysts" on 97.1, I still remember in mid 2008 when I made the mistake of turning it on after the game. Caller called in and talked about Bryant Browning and neither of them had any idea who he was. The guy had been starting for year and a half and was the center of plenty of attention when he was playing out of position in 2007 at tackle
The other night, whoever took over for Neft (actually liked Neft), was very vocal about not knowing who Cardale was and basically going on & on about how he didn't know who he was, didn't care who he was, and how fans don't know who he is..

Is there anyone other than ex-players that would make you guys happy?

It's sports entertainment radio, emphasis on entertainment. It's for ratings. You aren't supposed to like them. That's the point!
Disagree. Again.

I find any shot at Herbie hilarious, but isn't the dude calling him fake, also fake?

 Pathetic dudes.
Back to this Herbie/Common Man/TP war of words... let me see if I get this right:

1.) TP calls Herbie a fake Buckeye
a.) TP already at this point had a few gaffes that led him into trouble, namely "everyone kills people, man"
b.) This is coming from a "Buckeye" who sold his gold pants for a discounted tatt.

2.) Herbie fights back
a.) Moved out of UA because of his families saftey  I'm sorry for laughing, don't buy it at all...
b.) Called out several 18, 19, 20 year olds on National TV for doing something they never did in a totally unrelated broadcast - never bothered to say anything about it again.
c.) Speed, plays in space, spray tan

3.) The Common Man spouts off on air defending TP
a.) Chicago transplant
b.) Not a Buckeye fan

All around dumb fest.

Maybe its nitpicky but everytime I listen to a football game with Keels, he can never get the names right. He seems to be perpetually confused by two players wearing the same numbers. It is his job to know the roster, right?

You should have heard Keels do Reds games a couple years ago. He was the worst baseball announcer I've ever heard.

Agreed. The only thing I'd add is that Herbie is apparently not only adept at playing the victim card for himself, but also for his fellow entertainers at ESPN.

My memory is foggy on some of the schedule, but was this a more solid day line-up:
...

Drive: Tim Benz/Fitzsimmons & Herbstreit

I swear it used to be head-and-shoulders better (not even close). The only downside I ever saw was being stuck with Mike and Mike during the morning drive (for sport fans in Central Ohio).

Said before, Fitz and Herbstreit was the best radio 1460 had going.
