5 players suspended for 5 games in 2011 regular season (Appeal has been denied)

Just wow.

http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=162&f=2019&t=6929297&p=11

Ummm they also stole equipment from osu to sell/trade for tats and cash...it wasn't just their stuff.

So, according to scUM fans (I haven't used that term in quite awhile, but reading their outright lies in referrence to this situation, I think it is waranted again) these guys actually STOLE things to sell. I guess whatever types of lies and bullshit they can use to make themselves feel better since they have a shitty fucking program now.

Fuck *ichigan.

I usually agree with both of you, but consider this ... for the sake of the team, JT has to be seen as the players' advocate, not their adversary, and it would be difficult for him to do so if he imposes a punishment that is more strict than that imposed by the NCAA. I believe that it would also make it difficult for the school to appeal the five-game suspensions as being too harsh.

The fan in me wants to see the best team possible on the field. I also sit here scratching my head trying reconcile Newton playing in the NC game and other players throughout the country getting the short end of the stick in less egregious situations. The father in me who had to withhold privileges from my sons looks at this and realizes that sometimes one needs to be shocked into reality even though others may also feel the affects of my discipline. It hurts like hell to withhold privileges from a son because the natural inclination is is to help the boy enjoy life. In my case withholding privileges worked. Each son went down kicking and screaming, but in the end the lesson was learned and the behavior was not repeated. As far as the NCAA is concerned I would dare them to not count the bowl game as one of the counted suspension games.

Anybody up for a lolcat interlude to lighten this discussion up a bit?

This, especially the last sentence, x100000000.

Let's say that you want a job. You find an employer who wants to hire you. You meet all of the employer's requirements. Do you want some third party barging in and telling your potential employer that he can't hire you because you broke one of the third party's rules? Especially a rule that would have absolutely no effect on your ability to work for your potential employer? Especially a third party whose jurisdiction over you ended the minute you left college? This is already happening...third party background checks...anything from bankruptcies and foreclosures or just bad credit can keep you from getting hired. Not to mention felonies and other criminal activity that may be on record...how many speeding tickets or DUI or arrest warrants all will keep you from getting hired. I'm not saying a third party needs to make the ruling for the NFL but, the league can use the third party as more of a barometer on whether or nit they should take said player(s). Maybe some kids are physically ready but not emotionally/mentally ready and this would put more on the school/coaches/players to ensure the player is not just a good athlete but a good student & an upstanding citizen as well. I doubt it ... and the NFLPA feels the exact same way. By the way, Roger Goodell has no say in the matter, as the CBA is the governing document, and the language on draft eligibility is clear and grants no discretion to the Commissioner.Aren't they in the middle of negotiating a new CBA right now? It's not like it couldn't be written then.

There are no easy answers here. I'm just saying that the NFL NFLPA & NCAA have the ability to sit down and make something like this a reasonable addition to a new CBA. It can be stated in such a way that one party is not in total control over who is draft eligible rather all parties have input.

Ultimately the powers that be will decide and it's obviou$ they're not alway$ motivated by a player$ well-being.:wink2:

I find it so sad that we all come on here and obsess about winning a B10 championship, about beating ttun, etc and then the players, the one's who actually take part in making these things happen, sell the awards given for said accomplishments as if they mean nothing. There is but one word for this: betrayal. Can you boys....and I do mean boys; stab us a little deeper in the heart please? I mean, they are all looking at paychecks in the VERY near future bigger than most of us will ever see but despite that they sell hardware given to them by the very institution that helped SHAPE those talents upon which the paychecks are based? Needed the money for family? Gimme a break. Please, don't pour quite so much salt in the wound, it hurts enough already. I for one don't watch the NFL because there is even more of this selfish attitude so run off and join the big leagues, I don't want to see you in the uniforms anymore. Oh, and before anyone replies with the WEAK, well worn answer of "these kids are young and make mistakes" please save it for some other integrity challenged person. I don't buy it for one minute. These kids know about the expectations placed on them. They hear about staying out of trouble all through high school if for no other reason than to avoid letting their fellow players down. They know the consequences but simply don't care. And the lack of pride they have in the items sold is COMPLETELY inexcusable. Do any of you think they would not do it again if they knew they would never be caught? So it begs the question, do they get tats of OSU logo's etc because they are ultra loyal to our school or for street cred? The answer is obvious and so should be the school's response: bench them for the Sugar Bowl.

Yes, JT does have to seen as the players' advocate by the team. But that assumes that the rest of the team is perfectly okay with a big chunk of JT's on-the-field leaders putting the team's season(s) at risk of being tarnished.

I don't want to pretend to know how the other players feel, but JT's in a tough spot trying to make sure their achievements aren't flushed down the toilet. Isn't that why team rules exist and need to be enforced?

What I'm saying is that the team and JT would be acting eminently in their own interest by holding themselves to a higher standard than any ruling / governing body. That's the kind of coach I'd rather play for than one that lets any so-called authority have their way with me.

If somebody needs to play beat the NCAA back from preying on the players, it could (would have to be?) AD Smith.

It's jewellery that they won for running around on grass and chasing a ball.

It's really not that serious.

How many [censored]ing times has it been posted already that tOSU initially made the five ineligible for the bowl game only to have the NCAA turn around and say they can play but have to sit out the first five games of next year?
He knows this. He is just saying that he would prefer the suspensions go another way. The NCAA did not mandate that they play in the Sugar Bowl. I'm sure that they prefer it, and heavily "encourage" it. tOSU would be silly to go against their (NCAA) wishes that the BCS cash cow be a good show. But I am old enough to remember Arkansas Head Coach Lou Holtz sitting his two starting running backs for the 78 Orange Bowl, where he faced the Number 1 ranked Barry Switzer coached Sooners. Lou's second string back ran for over 200 yards and they crushed the Sooners, ending their hopes for yet another MNC.

So I understand why Tress did not sit them. Hell, from my two seats in the nosebleed section of the Dome next week I want to see Boom and TP play.

Winning a major bowl with your second string - because your program enforced disciplinary measures despite the "Big Bowl" status - became one of the Hawgs most treasured football memories. Funny how this came up with the opponent being the Piggies. And I mention this not to criticize not sitting them (it seems the best strategy to get a lighter ruling on appeal), but because most of the younger Buckeye fans would not know the history, and it will likely come up in discussion with the Oinkers.

a great example of an overly emotional fan. it is always interesting to see other people rushing to judge the actions of others without knowing the circumstances surrounding the incident. i am not making an excuse for them, but i would like to at least hear what they have to say before i trash them. there are various scenarios one can think of that would lead to some sympathy for them as there is the chance that these players are selfish as some believe them to be. but without hearing their side of it, it is irresponsible going around making judgmental comments in public.

The fact is a 5 games suspension NEXT Season is really not any suspension at all they will all head for the draft and greener pastures..

for the NCAA and OSU its just a way to claim they are doing something when in effect they are going to do nothing ...

Merry Christmas. No fan is proud of what happened...none support it. You've made your point over and over via 2 screen names.

Now go away...you are tiresome.

No worries, y'all coaches wont be sitting anyone out.. they have more excuses and poor me's than my teenagers.. I guess that why they make the big bucks...
Lord knows they allow different opinions around here - look at any SEC thread or Meyer thread where it is me versus the world

But you, my friend, are not "discussing:, but trolling with that attitude, and so I am likely in before the ban. You can criticize the decision all you want, but Tressel is a class act and your pigie self is rooting on thin ice with this [censored]ty attitude.

Edit: too late

The fact that if Urban did the same things he would be a scum bag is beside the point.

I wondering just what kind of Ethics and Coach OSU has ?.. The football world is watching..!

If they are allowed to play they will all enter the NFL Draft and No punishment for the violations will be served, thats FAIR.?.. I'm wondering how OSU fans would feel if the shoe was on the other foot..?

I think Arkansas will win regardless..! Now, if OSU loses they will look twice as bad if they play.. at least imo if they sit them out and they lose y'all still have your dignity.. If they play, win or lose OSU will have lost that IMO..

I always thought of Ohio as a Decent State... lets see if its for real ..?

So there you have it, future NCAA rules breakers of America (and your parents). Go for the gold. When you get caught, shrug and say, "Why, I had no idea." Blame it on your dad and/or a negligent compliance staff at your university.
The NCAA dropped the hammer on the Buckeyes -- quarterback Terrelle Pryor, running back Daniel "Boom" Herron, receiver DeVier Posey, offensive tackle Mike Adams and defensive lineman Solomon Thomas -- for 2011. They're all suspended for the first five games next year.
But the hammer only hurts if there's someone there to feel it hit. We'll see how many of the five salesmen are still Buckeyes by next season. I'll set the over/under at 1.

Most of these guys will hightail it to the NFL -- but not until after getting to play in a high-profile BCS bowl.

If that strikes you as nonsensical, well, get in line. That line currently stretches from Fayetteville, Ark., to Saigon. And back.

I'm sure that many people have already said this to you. But you are a fucking imbecile.

Merry Christmas dipshit.

Get your facts straight before posting.
