5 players suspended for 5 games in 2011 regular season (Appeal has been denied)

Same here. That really hurts to think that they could sell those items for tats :(

The whole tattoo story was regarding Jordan Whiting.

These other 5 are separate from that issue. Correct me if I'm wrong though. I thought that the press conference said it was separate.

I think ESPN has fodder to talk about during most of their bowl games this season.

I guess that's how you know you're relevant. You're not even playing in the game and they're talking about you (good or bad).

Braxton will enroll early. And he WILL start the 1st 5 games next year....
Im so fuckin pissed right now,

I will be extremely disappointed in Tressel if he changes what his plans were for Braxton on the basis of winning next year....

Tress has more moral courage than to play the win-now card.

Everyone get ready for the 2001-2004 offense next year. That offense, BTW, won Ohio State a National title, a Fiesta Bowl and developed the next Heisman Trophy winner at Ohio State.

Trust the coaches.

Tressel has always shown the ability to adapt and that he'll play the best players: if Miller is the best QB available and ready to handle the playbook, he'll be Tressel's guy.

I thought each player exchanged their golden pants, but I could certainly be wrong and would love to be.

LOL, dude I dont wanna bet you on this. But what has Kenny showed you to make you think he can start? I know hes been here longer than braxton, but thats the only advantage he has.

And what as Braxton shown on the college level that he's ready to start?

Is Braxton starting next year what is best for the kid or what is best for you as a fan?

Given your comments here I think we BOTH know the answer to that one.

This could become a benefit in the long run.

If they decide to go to the NFL, I honestly wouldn't care that much now.

I agree. There are many factors involved, all which the coaching staff will consider. But Coach Tressel has never been afraid to start Freshman, if he indeed considers them the best player for the position. I'm sure that BM will have every chance to win the starting position.

It would be interesting if he was the starter and happens to win our first 5 games and TP is still on the team...what happens then?

Well, dude, Guiton knows the entire system (two full years), has repped countless times against one of the best defenses in the country, throws a helluva ball (yeah, it was only the spring game, but his potential was clearly evident), is quick and shifty, and although he has only thrown a few game passes, he does have game experience.

Tressel is not going to burn Miller's redshirt simply to salvage a five-game stretch. We have three other scholarship QBs (Guiton, Bauserman, and Graham) who likely can get us through those games...we'll clearly be riding the backs of our defense those games.

But aside from missing Adams, our OL will not be different than had Adams not been suspended, so our running game will not be changed much, and with the stable of backs we have the running game can assume some of the offensive burden.

If Braxton is ready to start after spring ball and fall camp then he will.

It just seems that it will be Bauserman's job to lose due to seniority and the fact that Guiton really hasn't done anything either.

My impression: 5 games is harsh. I really don't mind the Athletic Department appealing this. I know about the AJ Green situation and I thought it was bullshit at the time, and I still think its bullshit. However, I do think they should be suspended for the Sugar Bowl and for a few games next year.

To those that think its chump change: $1200 would allow me to live for about 2 months. Some of us don't make much money and anything that we can get would be very very helpful. Given the unemployment levels for the region (nation?) it would be IMMORAL for the players not to do whatever they can to help family members.

However, we don't know what the background information is for these players' story. Some of them may have just used the cash to buy some things, others may have used it to pay Mom's mortgage. Its speculation, but from what Gene Smith was saying about "mitigating circumstances" in regards to the economic situation, it may be that it is family/unemployment related for some of these players.

I can tell you, if my family needed money, and I was sitting on a gold/diamond ring, NCAA be damned, I'm helping them with no regrets, absolutely NONE. The NCAA sits on a self-righteous golden-moral mountain that the student-athletes cannot reciprocate in many circumstances.

Please keep in mind, nothing they did was illegal (at least to my knowledge). They have violated NCAA rules, not the laws of mankind. I would ask that some of us keep this in perspective.

So the NCAA thought the violations were serious enough to warrant 5-game suspensions, but it won't start for the next game, which just so happens to be after the Sugar Bowl. WHAT!?!

Can someone explain to me how that would make sense unless the NCAA was worried about upsetting ESPN and the Sugar Bowl sponsors? And how does that not make the NCAA a bunch of [censored]ing hypocrites?

These young men broke the rules and absolutely should be punished for their mistakes. But the NCAA, through its own greed, rather than suspending them now, is putting them in the untenable position of having to declare too early for the NFL draft.

And if they were going to leave early anyway (which I highly doubt for most of them), then how is this any punishment at all? What a [censored]ing joke!
