Pryor was supposed to be the leader. This is/was HIS TEAM. He was supposed to be setting the example. The rules suck but you have to be smarter than that. You have to be a bigger person and teammate. It's so sad. I feel awful for us fans and also for the team, including the guys who messed up.

Huge lessons will be taken from this. Terrelle will be a much stronger human and teammate I would hope.

I don't even know where to begin really. There are too many questions about the present and the future.

So the NCAA thought the violations were serious enough to warrant 5-game suspensions, but it won't start for the next game, which just so happens to be after the Sugar Bowl. WHAT!?!

Can someone explain to me how that would make sense unless the NCAA was worried about upsetting ESPN and the Sugar Bowl sponsors? And how does that not make the NCAA a bunch of [censored]ing hypocrites?

These young men broke the rules and absolutely should be punished for their mistakes. But the NCAA, through its own greed, rather than suspending them now, is putting them in the untenable position of having to declare too early for the NFL draft.

And if they were going to leave early anyway (which I highly doubt for most of them), then how is this any punishment at all? What a [censored]ing joke!

I know that these kids have to worry about their families. But I'll tell you what. They get a FREE education. I am in college and I'm in way more debt than they are I guarantee you that.

That's like your employer saying "You don't need a raise because you got a free desk and chair" to sit at to do your work. They didn't "Get a Free Education." They are forced to attend school as part of the package, and because of the forced requirement are not required to pay for it themselves. And not only are they required to attend, they are also required to study and devote enough time that they remain academically eligible to continue to have the scholarship.

also, do you guys feel the coaches should suspend these players for the bowl game? I know the NCAA has suspended them next season, but as an institution of higher learning first, do you think they deserve to play in this game? Putting aside the fact it really hampers your chances of winning. What do you think?

When the first BigTen CCG is between Wisconsin and Nebraska, there will me far more division than there will be addition. Unfortunately, I agree with Herbie's assessment on TP. While a little bit hypercritical, it's not that far from what I feel is the truth. This is going to open up even MORE criticism for TP and also unfortunately for him he's no longer going to have the backing of myself and many other Buckeye fans.

It's petty, irresponsible stuff that has an extreme impact on each of these players individual careers and the success of the program takes a hit as well. Next year is going to be an adventure for sure, but at this point I'm almost willing to cut my losses as a fan and have that "rebuilding" year that we haven't had for a decade. Tressell and Co. know what they're doing and are entirely capable of pulling out another successful season next year with the abundance of talent that's on the board out in Columbus. I would almost RATHER these 5 take their talents to the Draft now. In a way, it would almost be selfish of them NOT to. They had their shot, they made poor decisions, they got caught and now they have to deal with the consequences.

As much as it stings to say it, all of these guys are to some extent replaceable. They picked one hell of a time to throw themselves and their teammates under the bus though.

Pryor? I don't know. He hasn't really done anything that could be a hanging offense, but the incidents of small to medium poor judgement just seem to keep piling up with this latest being the most egregious. I'm not saying he should go, but I personally wouldn't shed any tears should he choose to take his talents to the NFL.

I agree with this. And I sympathize with how you are feeling. There's a lot of questions about Pryor as a leader.

I wouldn't shed any tears either. I wish that Pryor was everything that we'd hoped he'd be. It's almost like a girlfriend that is hot so you want her to be perfect for you and you keep letting little things go or missing the glaring signs that she's not right because you are blinded by how hot she is.

I'm guessing Herbstreit knows more about Pryor and his attitude than most people on this site combined and am sure that some of his negative comments are not made without solid information.

who gives a shit if he has first hand experience of Pryor kicking puppies? He's supposed to be the professional here, and he rarely acts like it.

if his comments last night were about the selling of rings and gold pants, then he's fine. but I seriously doubt they were. he mentioned Brewster, didn't he? that's just a name from SbB that he decided to turn into a "fact".

Only the ones who submitted the paperwork on time (I'll check on the date, but it was some time earlier this month). We don't know which (if any) of the five actually did so. The ones who didn't submit the paperwork will have to return (barring some exception to the rule).

I could easily be mistaken about this, but I think the 'filing the paperwork' deal only applies to those that are unsure about their potential status and might like to return for another year.

If they are sure they're going, the don't have to file any paperwork.

So this might push the ones who haven't filed out the door.

I hate to say it, but I agree on some degree. I am not a fan of Herbie at all but I can certainly see where he is coming from when he mentioned Pryor wanting to go to tOSU for the sole purpose of going to the NFL. I never really put much thought into it but that is NOT something you want to hear from a leader.

I remember people saying he was very competitive, but my question is, is he competitive for his team, or for himself? Pryor is a very talented player, and I hope he had good intentions, but like ORD Buckeye said, I won't lose sleep if he takes those talents to the NFL, especially if that was his major goal.

For most STUDENT-Athletes that's plenty. For most on the team getting an education is a huge deal. Their future is in the real world. Not everyone is an NFL player. They also get a stipend as well.

Coming off back-to-back BCS National Championship game losses and moving into the new era of the BigTen, this is an extremely important time in the Ohio State football program's history. For any players, especially marquee guys like this, to pull something this irresponsible it is going to have an impact that extends WAY further than just themselves.
