5 players suspended for 5 games in 2011 regular season (Appeal has been denied)

it seems to me like the local beat writers dug around, found nothing, and this rumor was "nothing to see here"... then Herbstreet talks about it on national television, and the things blows up, am I mistaken?
seeing as the reports yesterday were by the dispatch that punishment was likely, something is REALLY up, etc. only to the biggest homer with a sub second grade reading level would be able to reach the conclusion which you have reached...

This was something that Lori Schmidt and myself found very interesting. Smith could have said possible or allegations but instead said "ncaa rules violations" without the possible or "ncaa rule violation allegations". Add that to a line drop in vegas and I must say I'm nervous now.
The SEC CG and Auburn-Georgia came off the board at one time, also. Add to that the fact we won a National Championship with Craig Krenzel, and I'm not worried :p

I really hope that this doesn't effect the bowl game too much. I fear that these players will be suspended either university out of fear of the NCAA. If these players did receive benefits, then they should be suspended. It's only fair. With college football being under the enormous magnifying glass that it is today for violations, it is the players' own fault if they get suspended. It's just dumb. I just hope it doesn't affect the bowl game too much.

yeah, any hint of a possibility of a major change to one or both teams involved will cause a reaction on a Vegas line.

as soon as the rumors broke, money may have started to shift toward Arky in big chunks. thus the change in the line.

that doesn't mean anything WILL happen, only that some people are willing to take that bet.

let me get it all straight this is ___ fault

where blank equals
1)herbie
2) hack job columbus ohio sports journalist
3) espn
4) the sec
5) cam newton
6) the ncaa
7) the money everyone else makes

no fault lies with say the maroons who broke a clear and obvious ncaa rule knowing that such actions would be a clear violation of their amateur status (on multiple levels) and in such a manner that has been both widely publicized, and extensively explained to them by the compliance team...

ill say it again, if true to the extent as rumored- anything short of kicking the kids off the team is nothing short of cowardly scumbag way out...

Can TP or another player sue ESPN and Kirk Herstreit for him running his mouth. Challenge him to give up his sources which provided players names involved. Things like this can cost you in the draft because of character issues and it can also be defamation of character because it will hurt your image/reputation with no credibility.

Lawyers please break it down. I think it would be funny if Herbstreit got slapped with a civil lawsuit for a million or 2.
1-truth is always a defense
2-as public figures the mental element required is so high (public figures rarely/never win defamation/libel lawsuits)

FWIW - 97.1 just broke in before commercial (Cowherd's on at the moment) to say they'll have the presser, and the announcer (not Lori Schmidt) put emphasis on the work "Possible"

Frankly, I think dissecting the inclusion or exclusion of that word is meaningless, but... in case you disagree, there you have it.

This is my first post here. I have been reading the posts for about ten days now. The Buckeye fans here and on Hogville seem very knowledgeable. Ohio State has a great tradition in football and I have always admired their program. I don't think the NCAA will do anything about this prior to the game (especially after the Cam Newton fiasco). I just hope your coach doesn't feel obligated to suspend anyone. I want Ohio State at their best. I feel it will be a great game. Even if we lose, I want your best shot. I think this could be the best of the bowl games. Just a little warning....a lot of your posters seem to be taking this game very lightly. My piggies are pretty good. Here's to a good, hard fought game, with everyone playing and no one getting hurt. Wooooo Pig Sooiiee!!!
