#5 Ohio State 93, #10 Florida 75 (Final)

Of the ranked teams playing in the ESPN marathon, Ohio State was the only one to get a win on the road. Granted, the Buckeyes were the only team ranked higher than the host school, but still nice to get the win.

Nice to avoid hearing the "S-E-C" chant, although I wasn't listening too carefully and maybe the home crowd broke into it at some point.

Lighty looks poised to have a huge year. Some of his drives were shades of Turner last year.

Something else that hasn't been mentioned yet... the ball handling skills of this team are the best I've seen for a Buckeye team in quite a while. Not only has Craft been impressive but Lighty, Buford and Diebler have also taken care of the ball and Sullinger has great hands for a big man.

This will be a fun year of Buckeye Basketball!

lighty's driving ability is so, so crucial to this team. without him, we don't have a player who thrives with penetration. buford can attack the rim but is more comfortable with the pull-up jumper. i shudder to think about this team without lighty. he's vital.

Let us be honest, rank this time of year doesn't mean jack. tOSU was an underdog going into this game (anywhere from 1.5 to 3pts). The people "in the know" thought tOSU couldn't overcome playing in a hostile environment against a talented SEC team.....instead they absolutely curbstomped UF in the 2nd half. Craft broke the press easily all night. Sullinger and Lighty scored at will. Ball movement was absolutely incredible. I really want to know what Thad said at the half or what adjustments he made regarding defense down low.

ESPN was not kind to Florida in their game summary.

http://scores.espn.go.com/ncb/recap?gameId=303200057

Sullinger was 13 of 17 shooting and added 10 rebounds, including five offensive boards. He abused Vernon Macklin and Alex Tyus in the paint, scoring on layups, dunks and short jumpers. His only weakness came at the foul line, where he missed both attempts.

Hack-a-Sully? It might happen down the road.

Florida rotated several defenders on Lighty, but none had any success. Lighty hit 9 of 11 shots and made 6 of 7 from the free throw line. He drove to the basket repeatedly, getting fouled or forcing defenders to leave Sullinger alone under the basket for dunks.

Lighty should be the model of what 3 good years of growth and development does for you going into his last season in a Buckeye uniform. It's amazing how much he's matured since playing along side Conley and Oden. He makes great decisions, even better passes, and now can finish with ease, much like Turner did last year. I think he learned a ton playing behind Turner the last few years.

Craft has impressivle ball handling. Lighty has been a star for years, he can hit top speed to the rim in two steps flat. Love the way he moves. Diebler and buford can bury a 3 at any given moment. Loved bufords intensity after he buried that 3. Lauderdale is a monster shot blocker which will continue to scare people under the rim and sullinger has great hands with the confidence to attack the basket. With his size and hands under the basket it will be real fun to watch our shooters get open looks.

Considering how intense this enviroment was, i mean those florida fans were cheering like this was a playoff game, i'm giving a hand to these freshmen. They played beyond my expectations and it was fun to see them do it.

Great to be a Buckeye!

This team is going to be a blast to watch this year. They have a great chance to make a helluva run in March.

They shot 62.9%, and turned the rebounding numbers around after a bad start - Florida only finished with 1 more offensive rebound than tOSU (8 to 7).

Tonight we saw: Sullinger's inside presence with the ability to finish with either hand; Craft's basketball IQ and ball-handling, Dallas's defensive intimidation, Lighty's all-around game, Buford's varied offensive skills, and Diebler's deadly shooting.

Thomas's rebounding and scoring abilities weren't shown that much tonight, but he'll also add a lot to this team. Minutes for Sibert, Weatherspoon, Smith and others will be tough to come by in tight games.
