How high do you think lighty will get drafted? I dont know much about the NBA draft but he looks like he can move and score as good as any first round pick to me....
without looking at the other players in the united states and around the world, i would guess that lighty is a mid-second round player if he shows out with any resemblance to how he did tonight. his ball-handling isn't ideal for a shooting guard, and he's not a reliable outside shooter when there is on-the-ball pressure. however, david is an outstanding defender who can drive and finish. he plays with passion, is coachable, and has progressed throughout his college career. if he attacks the boards more than he has, then many teams would find a spot for him.

Just got back from the game and had a great time. I haven't had a chance to go back through the thread yet, but I'm anxious to see how the game was viewed on tv. UF played about as well as they could have in the 1st half, rebounding and Boynton seemed to be the keys from where I sat.

I leaned over to my daughter at halftime and told her the Gators couldn't play any better than they did in the 1st half, and they were only up by 3.

2nd half came and the Buckeyes abused UF's press the entire 2nd half. The crowd was all over Billy, begging him to call off the press....it was great.

Just have to say that Sully is going to get a lot if not all of the headlines for the freshman class, but I was so impressed with the way Craft handled himself out there all night. What a steal he's turning out to be.

One more quick thing to mention. We were sitting about 5 rows behind the parents section and I noticed JJ Sullinger sitting down there. He was shouting out instructions and plays to his brother all night long. Was really cool to see.

Anyway, great great evening, and it was my 12 year old daughters 1st Buckeye game and she loved it. She said she's going to school tomorrow to let all of her Gator friends know how the game turned out. I'm definitely a proud papa. Go Bucks!

sadly defense alone wont get you in the NBA but lightys offense game looks like it has approved on all fronts...im sure he impressed many of the NBA scouts that were in attendance today...i think he has a good shot at the NBA and i would expect him to go in the 2nd round sometime...who knows if he has a hell of a year this year then he could go into the first round...2nd game into the year last year i dont think anyone thought turner would be the #2 pick in the draft so you never know

The most exciting aspect of this squad is how they handled the press. That has been a bugaboo of Thad Matta coached squads for a few years. Aaron Craft does a great job 1 v 1 and they know where to be once the ball beats the trap in order to get the easy buckets. Donovan's reliance on the full court press cost his team dearly today.

The other bugaboo of Thad Matta's OSU teams is defensive rebounding, which still needs some shoring up. Giving up a few too many offensive rebounds, but they overcame it in the second half and did much better crashing the glass.

Switched to a women's game? If you were ever doubtful of ESPiN's agenda against OSU, that doubt just evaporated. [censored] 'em! Go Bucks! :oh:

No shit. No one gives a crap about Women's BB except for their small core of fans and it's November 16th as well....At the very least don't switch the Columbus and Gainesville markets

eSPIN is a joke.

eSPIN is a joke.

maybe they are just trying to reinforce how shitty and unexciting women's basketball is

fundamentals? hell, I saw two air balls and super shitty awareness and ball movement in the last moments of that game, what a fucking joke

but yeah, fuck them for cutting over

Men's basketball: Stern halftime lecture gets Ohio State to focus on defense, which leads to big win

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Jared Sullinger came out of a first-half timeout looking disgusted with the way the game was unfolding.

He wasn't the only one.

"We went into halftime and we talked about a couple of things we needed to get better at," Ohio State basketball coach Thad Matta said.

That put it very mildly.

"He yelled at us," Sullinger said. "His face was red. He let us know it was time to rebound. 'It's either buckle down or just get out the gym.'

"We answered the bell."

Why I was wrong

Going in, I thought Ohio State would lose at Florida last night. I looked at Florida, saw experience on its roster, the size and depth, factored in that the game would be in Gainesville, Fla., and figured all those things would give the Gators the edge.

One thing I didn't consider was the point Florida coach Billy Donovan made after his team was steamrolled in the final 12 minutes by the Buckeyes.

"When you look at (Jon) Diebler and look at (David) Lighty and look at (Dallas) Lauderdale and (William) Buford . . . those older guys on that team right now won a Big Ten regular-season championship, they won a Big Ten conference tournament championship, and they also won some games in the NCAA Tournament," Donovan said.

He also noted that Lighty, a fifth-year senior, played on the 2006-07 Ohio State team that reached the NCAA championship game before losing to Florida.

This is the point I missed:

"Our older guys have not done that," Donovan said, "and that’s a huge difference. That’s what our older guys are trying to achieve."
