Oden and Buckeyes pound Cincinnati Bearcats, 72-50

By Michael Marot
The Associated Press

INDIANAPOLIS -- Greg Oden's hometown fans got one more glimpse of how dominant he can be.

It was every bit as good as they remembered from his high school days.

The freshman center had 14 points, 11 rebounds and five blocks in 27 minutes and nearly produced a double-double in the first half as No. 4 Ohio State routed Cincinnati 72-50 on Saturday. It was the most lopsided victory margin in Wooden Tradition history. The previous record was Cincinnati's 79-59 win over Purdue in 2004.

BLAME GAME: UC guard Deonta Vaughn, who missed nine of his 11 shots, blamed the Bearcats' 26 percent shooting on the use of balls he said were smaller than what they are used to.

"Every shot was a good shot," Vaughn said. "Everybody had open looks. But we were complaining a little bit about the balls."

Who's balls was he complaining about??????

Ok here goes. This team could have scored over 100 if it had wanted to.
the first half was very good.
These are not complaints but things I noticed.
Until we got up by 30 +. Oden would have gotten the 20 points I forecast if he had been in a closer game and been played more. I think part of the outcome was that Cinci was tired. They missed a lot of open shots in the first half.
In the 2nd half we didnt do so good. The "team " effort got a little shaky as players started taking some quick shots. In turn the D suffered and Cinci got some trans baskets.
We only scored 30 in the 2nd half, partially because Matta played more people, mostly because of poor shot selection.
All in all a good game for us. I saw positive things in team play and that is improvement.

what a bunch of whiners and even after that the majority of them shoot down their own team. plus they have their never ending rants over OSU current recruiting violations.:roll2:
That site has some funny guys. :slappy: :slappy:
"has there ever been a game where the student section could chant 'air ball' non stop and never have to stop because everyone on the floor has jacked up at least one air ball? "

In all fairness, we look bad in the first 10 minutes. We were throwing up bricks, missing all of our FT attemps and giving too many easy shots (and UC still missed). At about the 10 min mark was when Oden had back to back dunks and turned our confidence. I watched the game tape delayed - had I not known the score I would have been worried for the first 10 min. Maybe I was being too hard on us (it was 2 a.m. when I finally got to watch it).

they live in a glass house.

did anyone who went to the game notice the number of cincy fans who were doing the gator champ? that was classy. a lot of purdue fans were cheering for the bearcats, too. during the butler-purdue games, ohio state fans were cheering for, if either team, purdue.

i got a laugh when i saw that the loudest cheer from the cincy fans occurred when one of their male cheerleaders held up a female cheerleader longer than one of our cheerleaders did. when that's all you have to be proud of, i guess that's what you cheer for.

You 'saw' the loudest 'cheer'? wtf, man? :shake:
The Bearcats got dismantled by a far superior team yesterday. If all you can do is harp on how UC fans reacted to the ass beating maybe its you who needs to check yourself. For the last 15 years the dominant Division 1 basketball program in Ohio has been UC. Its not even debatable: one final four, three elite 8's, six sweet sixteens, two national players of the year and the third highest winning percentage in those years.
OSU is cleary moving past UC and why Buckeye fans feel the need to piss on UC is beyond me...OSU got the big win they were expected to get against a team with less talent than half of D1...now get ready for Florida next week and forget about it.

So H&G, what was UC's excuse for their endless trash talking when they were the non-debatable, dominant d1 program?

Who here is urinating on your program? Buckguy made some comments on the fans in the stands. Other than that, I see a lot of people responding to the sour grapes from Vaughn and cinci message boards.

If the loudest cheer was for a cheerleader holding contest, that's sad but humorous. If that happened at the Schott w/ OSU fans, it would be sad/funny, and also a very plausible event given the typical crowd.

Mick Cronin is a :sob: .

I love how UC keeps pining for a rivalry between these two teams. Would I like to see it? Sure. But I don't want to see Ohio State, being the current champ in the State, cowtow to the whiners from the south.

All of the Pussycats' fans who keep crying to play Ohio State keep doing so because one thing is undeniable... The Buckeys are THE Ohio STATE University. They are the top dog. I don't give a shit about some resume from an era where Thuggins recruited JUCO players who couldn't even get into Ohio State. The fact is that you don't challenge teams/programs that are inferior. You challenge programs that are superior. Ohio State is superior. That's why they are being challenged. The Pussycats are inferior. That's why they do the challenging.

Fuck them. Let them pine for another 44 years. We don't need to appease their whining coach or their fanbase. We have Big Ten titles to win.

J,

I have no excuse for endless trash talking UC fans on internet message boards. I, for one, have done no such thing and I am not exactly happy with the minors and norwood rednecks who represent UC at times. It happens. Cronin had some words that sounded like whining, but he also said that the better team won on every level...why no posts for the love he did give the Bucks?
Sorry if I flamed this thread...I tried to keep it as civil as possible...

oh...btw...

OSU could (I put emphasis on the word 'could') be close to losing Eugene Cliford...details (maybe) to follow.
