#4 Ohio State 72, Cincinnati 50 (Final)

Oden is a special talent...wow.

As a UC grad I have to say that I see no light at the end of the tunnel. NAncy ZImpher killed UC's basketball program by firing Thuggins that late into the spring time. I know I have faith that Mic will turn it around, but damn...the difference in talent between this UC squad and Thuggins first team in 1990 is amazing....I hope it is not another 44 years until the next game...its not like UC and OSU chase the same recruits so it can't hurt. :(

Impressive preformance, nice to watch. Oden reminds me of Bill Russell, arms all over the place. Talent all over the place, Matta has his job cut out for him just learning how to use it. Sweet game.
Well said, I agree. if we played someone else very good I would be worried.
We will see how we do against Fla next sat.

OHIO STATE 72 CINCINNATI 50
Buckeyes rule day
26-2 run by Ohio State at end of first half puts Bearcats in 42-14 hole

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

INDIANAPOLIS The rematch more than 40 years in the making took less than 40 minutes to decide. Much less. A shade more than nine, to be exact. That was all the time the Ohio State men?s basketball team needed to turn its long-anticipated reunion with Cincinnati into a party of one yesterday in the Wooden Tradition.

COMMENTARY
Neither Ohio State nor Cincinnati wants to play again

BOB HUNTER

INDIANAPOLIS If you've never seen one, this is apparently what a dead horse looks like. As dull as Ohio State?s 72-50 win over Cincinnati was the Buckeyes were up 57-22 at one point in the second half the state's basketball fans might want to savor it. There were signs this dormant rivalry, hauled out of the deep freeze after 44 years, was already being dragged out behind the barn and buried before the teams left Conseco Fieldhouse.
Cincinnati coach Mick Cronin, taking whining to another level, accused the Buckeyes of scheduling this game only because they knew the Bearcats were going to be down. If hard feelings between the two staffs hadn't already developed on the recruiting trail before yesterday, Cronin?s postgame barbs might have been enough to persuade Ohio State coach Thad Matta and athletic director Gene Smith to start screening calls from Cincinnati.

OHIO STATE NOTEBOOK
Inside presence of Oden provides added benefits

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

INDIANAPOLIS Greg Oden had five blocked shots for the second time in three college games yesterday.
His total impact on Ohio State?s 72-50 victory over Cincinnati in the Wooden Tradition was impossible to quantify. But the Bearcats' 26 percent shooting from the field in Conseco Fieldhouse was a fairly good barometer. "They don't want to drive when he's down low," said OSU guard Mike Conley Jr., who has played with Oden since they were sixth-graders. "He makes them think twice whenever they look to drive."

O-HI-Oh, that was ugly
With a chance to beat state's big boys, UC drubbed
BY BILL KOCH | [email protected]

INDIANAPOLIS - For a while, it appeared as if this historic rematch would result in a loss of historic proportions for the University of Cincinnati basketball program.
With 11:42 to go, the Bearcats trailed No. 4 Ohio State by 35, sending reporters paging through the UC media guide to find the worst losses in school history.
In the end, OSU's 72-50 victory over UC on Saturday in the John R. Wooden Tradition before 18,356 Conseco Fieldhouse was not one for the record books.

UC notebook
Cronin says Matta not interested in more UC-OSU
BY BILL KOCH | [email protected]

INDIANAPOLIS - Don't look for another basketball game between Cincinnati and Ohio State any time in the near future.
UC head coach Mick Cronin certainly isn't.
Cronin said after Ohio State's 72-50 victory Saturday at Conseco Fieldhouse that it had become obvious that OSU coach Thad Matta had no interest in playing UC on a regular basis.

Here is a great quote from Matta...

Asked if he would have agreed to play UC if the Bearcats were not going through a transition, Matta said: "I don't know. I don't even know who scheduled this game.
"Nobody was feeling sorry for me when I got to Ohio State."

Buckeyes slam Bearcats, 72-50

Ohio State runs out to huge first-half lead, then coasts to victory; schools don't seem likely to build a rivalry.

INDIANAPOLIS ? If revenge is a dish best served cold, the Ohio State men's basketball team stored this helping in a glacier.
The No. 4-ranked Buckeyes put together a 26-2 first half-ending run and cruised to a 72-50 win over Cincinnati in front of 18,356 on Saturday afternoon at Conseco Fieldhouse.
