#4 Florida 86, #3 Ohio State 60 (Final)

It's Still Great To Be a Buckeyes!!!

We Buckeye fans have a gift. We have one of the best Football coaches in the history of the game. We also have one of the best young Basketball coaches in Thad Matta, and we have one of the greatest and most talented teams in the history of The Ohio State Basketball (at least according to the "experts"). We are so spoiled.
Remember, these kids are mostly true freshman. There will be alot of bumps along the road but this team will grow and it will be well worth the ride. This year they will end up in the big dance and it will be so fun and they will have matured since this terrible day. They will make us proud... Mark that down!! Then (not too look too far in advance but ...) next year there is yet another fine recruiting class coming in, so we as fans have alot of great years to look forward too. Swallow todays bitter pill and then ENJOY OUR BUCKEYES RIDE!!
Please don't over analyse this one game and please please don't bash a bunch of mostly 18 year olds kids who are just starting out in the game .. they are kids and kids are prone to making mistakes. Thad will teach them and they will get better by leaps and bounds. Sure, analyse the faults and what they coulda, shoulda done better, but rest assured that these kids will get alot better down the road!!! Mark that down and enjoy the ride. Today sucked but it is still great to be a Buckeye!!! Come March they will be a total team working on all cylinders.

Ouch. We'll go ahead and just call that a learning experience.

As far as UF fans go, I've never met one that really knew a lick about the actual game...football or basketball. They may be the dumbest fanbase in the country...no lie.

wait a second. they chanted "overrated... just like football"? if that's the case, they just shot to the top of my most-hated programs/fanbases.

Gators football coach Urban Meyer can only hope for the same success. He was courtside with his family and spent the second half chatting with former Ohio State football star Cris Carter.

With a few minutes to play, the crowd chanted "over-rated." They followed that with chants of "just like football."

Geez, officiating wasn't the whole story but our guys look like they are getting mugged in every picture.

I got a great idea after the GATORS GET KILLED BY OSU ON JAN 8TH.
OSU TRADES OUR MALE CHEERLEADERS FOR THESE TRUE CHEERLEADERS:biggrin:

Those aren't UF's cheerleaders. The coed cheerleading squad sits the other side of the court. Those are the Dazzlers. That is, the pom pom squad.

GOBBLED BY GATORS

With injured center back, Florida routs Ohio State

By Mark Long

Associated Press

GAINESVILLE, FLA. - Florida center Al Horford looked ``awful'' in his first practice in nearly two weeks. He was tentative and clearly trying to protect his left ankle.
Nonetheless, coach Billy Donovan decided to throw him into the game Saturday against No. 3 Ohio State and see if he would perform better, given the atmosphere and the marquee matchup.
The move worked better than Donovan could have imagined.
Horford had 11 points and 11 rebounds in his return from a sprained ankle, keyed a crucial second-half run and helped the fifth-ranked Gators dismantle the Buckeyes 86-60.

i havent read the thread, nor do i have time to today. a few quickies.

1 our boys got intimidated. when floor blew the doors off starting at the 17min mark in the 2nd, our boys get rattled. i didnt think they would. they did. all the bump and physical (think msu) stuff after the plays got to them.

2 noah isnt the best player on his team. (that gaurd and horford are better players)

3 officiating, you can comment but youll see that kind of game called in the b10 this year. gotta play through it, plus they lost by 30, thats an ass whopping no matter who calls the game and how its called.

4 lighty, he isnt ready yet. you can tell hell be a good player, but just isnt there yet.

5 coaching, personally i wasnt impressed by the ingame managment. i didnt like the subbing patterns or the rotations or the pairings. once again i dont think it mattered as florida had the better club.

6 three point shooting. you live by the 3 and die by it. and lets be frank its a lot harder to shot the three if you have 3 68 guys out there, a lot harder to shot over them. think gtown. same story. i credit florida for that.

7 REBOUNDING. how many game threads have i metioned this (this year and since matta arrived). you arent gonna win games if you get out rebounded 43 to 25.

talk aways.

what you have here is a club that can learn from this. break the film down and have specfic things to work on. its a lot easier to teach kids after a loss than after they pound some school by 20.

the phyiscal play, dont think every coach in the b10 didnt see that team on national tv cower to physical play. the going out of their way to be physical and make contact before, during and after the whistle. sure it was frosh against upper classment but im telling you know youll see it again. florida got into ohio states head.

the fab five. keep in mind they never won a b10 title. but what did those two teams do in march? two final fours... it is about building and improving your club for a push deep into the tourney.

i feel like i'm beating a dead horse here, but anyway... greg should not be extended to the 3-point line on defense. heck, greg has been extending himself paces past the arc. it's not as though this is something that matta doesn't want. coach has stated that he wants greg to be tenacious in this regard, and greg's been covering high picks since his first game. the only time that this was called for was against iowa state. the guy he was guarding in that game could hit the three. otherwise, extending greg that far out wears him down, invites fouls, weakens the post, and creates mismatches/imbalances. i just don't get it.
i forgot this, i was going to say somethig about it.
my wording wouldnt be as strong. but certainly why have two guys fight over the top of ascreen? and why is it that we have to go over every screen?

the sky isnt falling, but ive said it for wins and and ive said it at losses, matta has yet to get me a trademark coaching win. lets be honest folks, hes got his hands full with these youngs guys, they are still earning.

and ill throw in one more thing. conditioning. ive said this before to.

Big trouble inside
Florida?s Horford, Noah trigger 34-7 charge that stuns Ohio State

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

GAINESVILLE, Fla. ? The loss at North Carolina was heartening. It showed a young Ohio State men?s basketball team that could hang with a highly ranked opponent even without Greg Oden.
With the outcome on the line, it also showed how vulnerable the Buckeyes can be without the 7-footer in the middle of their defense. In case anyone had forgotten, defending NCAA champion Florida reminded everyone yesterday. Powerfully so. The Gators took advantage of Oden?s foul trouble early in the second half to build a 10-point lead with him on the bench. The surge became a tidal wave even after he returned, and the third-ranked Buckeyes were swamped 86-60 before a record crowd of 12,621 in the O?Connell Center.

Buckeyes get a reality check at good time

GAINESVILLE, Fla. ? If a normal picture is worth a thousand words, then a shot of Ron Lewis? dazed expression must have been worth, what, an unabridged dictionary? When the Ohio State senior was asked if he had ever been part of anything even remotely resembling the hideous 86-60 beating that Florida had administered to his Buckeyes yesterday, he appeared almost catatonic.

OHIO STATE NOTEBOOK
Horford goes from hobbling to healthy in one day?s time

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

GAINESVILLE, Fla. ? The way Al Horford practiced on Friday, Florida coach Billy Donovan is adamant he didn?t think Horford would play yesterday. That?s why the official word from the Gators was that their 6-foot-10 center would be "re-evaluated" before the game against Ohio State.
"I think a lot of people thought I was trying to be cute in trying to not say a whole lot," Donovan said. "Everything that was without contact (in practice Friday) was terrific. The minute we started to bang and have contact, he looked awful. There was no question he was favoring his ankle. He was very, very guarded with it.
