#3 Wisconsin 72, #5 Ohio State 69 (Final)

Tough to have Cook and Lewis out on the floor at the same time, and yes, I know they are offensive threats (well, atleast one of them used to be). Lewis played horrible on the defensive end and Cook is also a bit of a liability. It looked like Lewis didn't care to defend anyone and when you're not scoring on the other end of the floor you damn well better hustle and play some D. The play that got me was when the team looked to be playing some good D in their zone trap and the ball got switched to the corner and a guy casually knocked down a three as Lewis gave a weak attempt at a close-out.

Also, it looked like everyone started to play for themselves when the lead got a little further away in the 2nd half and it turned into a 15 point ballgame.

can't say I'm displeased, we're young and I'm going to keep telling myself that, but for how long? It's time we get it going whether it's knocking down some shots, getting an identity Offense, or playing some consistent D, it's getting time where the team needs to step up a little more.

Keep in mind where our 3 loses came...We will be fine...

If I am not mistaken Harris was 5-11 from 3. That is almost 50%. that is pretty damn good...
if harris has time to set his feet and go straight up with his shot, it's money in the bank. harris has a tendency to lean to his right with his shots, and that's when he misses. regardless, he's shooting at a very good clip. in the three games decided by 9 or fewer points (unc, indy, and wisky), he's 10-of-20 from beyond the arc.

as an aside, i noticed a lot of drives that were singleminded. there were tons of forces off of penetration. our set shooters are punishing. ohio state should be a drive-and-kick team, which would keep the defensive players honest and open the inside for oden. instead, the interior becomes clogged, shots are forced, and attempts are blocked.

OK, I'm calm again. Still getting over the football game.

I was fully expecting a home and home split with Wisky so I'm not that dissapointed. From here on out, I have to think we'll be a favorite in every game we play right? The rest of the B10 is pretty weak, I know you still have to play the games, but from here out the schedule seems to give us a window to get better and not be in a ton of real danger for losses along the way.

NU x 2
MSU x 2
Purdue x 2
scUM x 2
PSU x 2
@ Minny
Iowa at home
Wisky at home but not untill 2/25

What do you guys think from here? 1 more loss?

They might run the table Jax. Come March, this is a team that nobody is going to want to see. Oden is only about 50% right now, by March, he might be only 70%. That alone makes us a final four threat.

MADISON, Wis. - Cruising to what was shaping up as a surprisingly easy victory over Ohio State, Wisconsin took its foot off the gas and nearly contributed to the growing legend of Greg Oden.

Oden needs to be more active and aggressive. I don't know if he's hesitant because of his injury, but much of the time, on offense, he just looks like a big body in there but that's about it. If he had Hansborough's intensity and he'd be unstoppable.

I didn't get to see the game, but this was the first comment out of one of my coworkers mouths here in Indy. He said that Oden never really seemed to start playing until about 5 minutes left in the game.

Rally falls just short
Ohio State almost comes back from 16-point deficit

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

MADISON, Wis. ? Wisconsin is good enough to win most nights given one chance to score.
The Ohio State men?s basketball team gave the Badgers two chances too many times in the second half last night. It made the difference between defeat and what could have been the Buckeyes? first victory in the Kohl Center in seven years. Five times in a game-deciding 21-5 run, Wisconsin scored after offensive rebounds to build a 16-point lead with 9 1 /2 minutes remaining. It turned out to be barely enough as the third-ranked Badgers survived a furious Ohio State rally in the final minute for a 72-69 win over the fifth-ranked Buckeyes.

I would agree that we can win them all, but first we need to start this saturday with Tennessee. That is a big confidence game. Then the next real big test after that will be MSU on the road, until we get to Wisky at home.

Should be interesting, but don't be dissapointed if we lose one of those games we shouldnt. We are a young team and we will make mistakes.

One more thing I forgot to mention last nite.

The lack of hitting anyone with screens. We try and set lots of screens, but the reason why we arent open very much coming off of them is b/c the lack of putting their body into the defender and just letting them get right thru the pick.

I didnt see one guy that was setting consistently good screens last nite. Harris would pop back for the 3 b4 the defender was even to him.

Also Oden didnt set good screens either. We need good screens from the big guys, and the guards for that matter as well...

Honestly I think that the team showed a ton of maturity and character with their late game surge against Wisconsin. There is a reason that the Badgers have only lost 2 Big Ten games under Ryan. This team has lost all of it's games to more seasoned, top 5 teams. Come March they are going to be dangerous.

I was very pleased when they fought their way back into this game. It was only a few short weeks ago that this team folded in the second half against Florida. The easily could have folded in this one as well. Oden has been dissapointing on offense the last couple of games. He does a lot of standing around. It may be a conditioning issue. I think the final 5 minutes of this game was a breakthrough for this team. It was the first time that I have really seen the offense click with Oden on the floor against a quality opponent. I think once the got down so big, it kind of took the pressure off and they were able to loosen up and play thier game. I was very encouraged by what I saw. Hey, we've only lost road games to top 4 programs and two of them were close. That ain't bad. Matta is notorious for getting his teams ready for the tourney and these boys will be ready.
