#3 Ohio State 63, Purdue 56 (Final)

I love the fact that Purdue played a great game against us, we couldnt hit a 3 to save our lifes and we still pulled out the victory...

I was hoping for a comfortable win, but this is going to help this teams growth...

I could say something about every player, but most of us already know what would be said, but I do want to mention Lighty and his 4 point spurt in the second half after we got down. It was clutch and was great for him step up like that...

As for the Refs, alot of the fouls that Purdue collected that made the foul descrepsency was when Conley was driving down the lane and they were riding him. He caused 4 of them in the first 5 minutes or so in the first half, then you have to take into account that Purdue had to foul 3 times down the stretch to be able to get the ball back.

If anything there were a couple questionable no calls or bad calls against Oden, but he is going to have to adjust his game accordingly as JO already mentioned...

Either way lots of positives to take out of this one...

I agree with the idea that this game was a "character " builder. As usual we are all happy the Bucks won. I had to get the game 2nd hand but I noted we scored about 10 points less than our average so the D had to step up I guess. WE do need to start being consistant on our threes. we can't afford to rest on our laurels in the Big Dance.

Well the 10 less points was due to us not hitting our outsides shots, I would say with the shooters we have in Butler, Cook, Conley, Lewis that we have a better shot at hitting these shots with consistency than having off nites, like today, but the thing is that we won a game where we didnt play a great game and Oden dealt with foul trouble all game which allowed quite a few easy baskets for Purdue...

Purdue held Michigan State to 38 points this week, winning 62-38. I think it was a good win and a good characterbuilder. We need to be challenged prior to the NCAA, if we are to run deep. We need to be challenged if we are going to beat Wisconsin twice.

I couldnt agree more, I think the next two games against PSU and Minny are going to be ones where we take it to the other team, then the big one against Wisky should be a challenge...

I agree with all these posts. My concern is how far we can go with the lack of 3's we have been having. From what I have seen my impression in the last few games has been that no one has been hiting them regularly. Butler was until yesterday.

Here is the thing, we have all seen Butler, Cook, Lewis hit these shots with great consistency...While they have all struggled some as of late, they will be back. Then throw in a guy like Conley who seems to be shooting the ball a lot better than he was early in the season and you have 4 guys that can get hot on any given night.

When you play in a physical conference you can start to lose your legs and you shots arent dropping like they once were, but the thing is Butler and Lewis have been thru this b4 so they are going to be the guys that we are going to need to lean on to start hitting these shots and I think they will.

Fwiw over the last 3 games we have shot 16 of 54 thats less that 33%. we have one player, Cook, over 40% in 3 pt. for the season. I am alarmed at this when I am considering how far we can go in the Tourney.

I will agree with you that our 3 point shooting has struggled, but we now also have a drive game to go to with Conley and a post game to go to with Oden...So we bring it from all angles...

Butler might as well be at 40% with his 39.8 and Harris is at 38 which isnt bad, but he needs to learn to not fade to the side on some of his shots...

The guy that has really struggled that we are going to need to step up from out there is Lewis, I have came to the conclusion that he does a lot fo his damage in transistion, and when he gets the open looks in transition and seems to penetrate a litle more while in transistion, this is why I think he has struggled with Oden back in the lineup some...Either way we are going to need him to shoot the ball well and look to penetrate...

Also you have to look to Conley as he has became a much better shooter than his percentage would show...

One thing that you have to look at with our team, why we might struggle at times at on ball defending overall we are a great team defensively with anything inside the arc.

I think the main keys to tourney time are going to be:

Of course scoring more points than the other team and not turning the ball over 25 times.

But after that it is going to come down to how we rebound, defend the other team behind the arc, and hitting our outside shots...

Exactly. :tongue2:
We can only support the men and hope they get some strentgh back in their legs. So bring on the rest of the reg season and keep kicking butt.
Do you think they wil get Oden a tear away jersey? i would like to see it.

Then they will just start holding onto his shorts...

I if the refs are going to start taking note of this or if they are going to continue to let it go on...

Hey I remember that happening in the dance once. shorts were stretched clear out to busting and the trailing ref didn't call it. Maybe Matta needs to get a T over it to get them to start calling it.
