'23 CA CG Bronny James (USC commit)

Never discount the value of PR.. PR is free advertising/marketing... Bronny is PR because LeBron is PR
As all advertisers know.. you can't buy an ad on page 1 of the sports for any amount...
So to get on page 1 is huge value... and free.. worth millions to almost ten million depending on the site or paper or media

This. I don't think he'd come here with the expectation he's going to be a star or carry the team. Like him or not, LeBron is one of the biggest brands on the planet. Having his son within the program can only increase the program's visibility. That would be a good thing.

And Gayle leaving along with middleton definately opens the door for it to happen if both sides are interested

Hard pass

Kid is horrible and I cringe at signing horrible players

Signing low end talent for other reasons is a slippery slope
Yeah, I'd pass too. I don't think that he is horrible; but he's not likely to be an impact player. I'd worry about him being a distraction too.

On the positive side, (with his NIL deal with NIKE) he might be the second member of the James family to give the entire team "free shoes"..... :biggrin2:

Winning more games would increase the program's visibility too.

Wherever he goes with it probably won't be about more money. He already has what is (undoubtedly) a lucrative NIL deal with Nike and his father isn't a "pauper". I'm guessing that he might transfer to the University of Nike in Eugene, OR.

Bronny James signs NIL deal with Nike: 'Nike’s been a part of my family'

Bronny James, son of the Los Angeles Lakers' LeBron James, is getting even deeper into the family business. Nike announced on Monday that they've signed Bronny and four other college athletes to name, image, and likeness endorsement deals.

Bronny, who has been wearing LeBron's shoes on the court, is no stranger to Nike. His dad signed with them before he was drafted into the NBA, and released his first signature shoe two decades ago. The company has played a key part in the elder James' brand, and now it's Bronny's turn to sign with Nike as his own career begins.

“For as long as I can remember, Nike’s been a part of my family,” Bronny told Complex Sports. “Getting a chance to team up with them and continue my family’s legacy both on the court and in the community is wild — it really means a lot to me.”

Not that I think we should put much effort into it, but having Bronny in Columbus could be a good thing. Losing Gayle and Middleton is not ideal...Chatman may be next for all we know. I think we have spots there is the point, not really sure there are others lining up to come in...we have White and Mobley coming in, who both are good in their own right.

We got Meechie back, which I am excited about. But we still need more players and I don't see Bronny being much of a downgrade in talent with who is out there, plus you do get the added marketing. We have brought in other transfers that were not any better and didn't have the name. If we can find better talent in the portal, then I am listening. As of right now though, I am not aware of it and I think the fit would be good. As said above, he wouldn't be the player carrying the team but he is good enough to contribute and help next year's team.

Where that might be is anyone’s guess, but the possibility of him landing in Scarlet and Gray has to at least be explored. Everyone knows LeBron’s fandom is second to none when it comes to OSU athletics as he’s constantly gifting the Buckeye football and basketball teams shoes and LBJ Nike gear. Heck, he even has a locker in the locker room at the Schott even though he never actually played for Ohio State.

Another factor could be the return of Meechie Johnson. Johnson started his career in Columbus but transferred to South Carolina after two seasons where he led the Gamecocks in scoring this year. Here’s where it gets interesting. LeBron and Meechie’s father have a close friendship and LeBron calls Meechie his “nephew” even though there is no blood relation. It’s possible that Bronny would want to team up with Meechie at OSU.

Of course, there are many options for a player of Bronny’s pedigree. Deciding to go through the draft process might be an option. LeBron has said more than once that he’d love to play with his son in the NBA and LeBron isn’t getting any younger.

Maybe Duquesne is a landing spot after Dru Joyce III was recently named head coach. James and Joyce played together in high school at Akron St. Vincent St. Mary.

There will be much speculation as to the landing spot for Bronny until a decision is reached and made public. Until then, we’ll just have to wait and see.

Just sayin': I didn't know that.

1. We need more bodies.
2. I truly believe Bronny would bring more positives to Columbus than negatives.
3. Maybe this is the year Bronny makes a leap and we get a much improved version under coach Diebs which is obviously the ideal situation.
4. His health condition would be closely monitored by a lot of very nearly located professionals should that arise.

Now, if him coming here would block a possible all star addition then I wouldn't love that but if he's really an option you have to weigh in on that and getting more support from LBJ and his mega bucks can only be a huge benefit!

Bronny James, son of basketball great LeBron James, declares for NBA Draft, enters transfer portal

After one season at the University of Southern California, Bronny James appears to be heading to the NBA. The 19-year-old guard announced on social media Friday plans to enter the NBA Draft and enter the transfer portal.

James previously entered the transfer portal. He will be allowed to work out for NBA teams before he ultimately decides whether to play college basketball next season or join the professional ranks.

"I've had a year with some ups and downs but all added to growth for me as a man, student, and athletes," James wrote in a post on X, the company formerly known as Twitter on Friday. "I've made the decision to enter the NBA Draft while maintaining my college eligibility and will also be entering the NCAA transfer portal."

Lakers draft picks 2024: How Bronny James could team up with LeBron in Los Angeles

LeBron James has mentioned numerous times over the past few years that he'd love to play with his son Bronny James in the NBA.

That could come true this summer at the 2024 NBA Draft. Bronny entered his name into the draft and the college transfer portal to retain his collegiate eligibility.
  • Lakers' first rounder: New Orleans Pelicans own the pick but can defer to 2025.
  • Lakers' second rounder: San Antonio Spurs own the pick.
  • Clippers' second rounder: Lakers own the pick
Without any trades, the Lakers can have either one or two draft picks, with the Clippers' second rounder a guarantee. If they do receive their first round pick this year, the Pelicans will own the Lakers' 2025 first round selection.

LeBron James contract

Something to note heading into the offseason is LeBron's contract situation with the Lakers.

He signed a two-year, $99 million contract extension in August 2022, and it includes a player option on the second season. He can opt out of the contract this offseason and become an unrestricted free agent, or he can remain with the Lakers for another season and hit the market in 2025.

It's possible that LeBron makes his decision based on Bronny's NBA Draft status. LeBron, a future NBA Hall of Famer, could opt out of his deal and sign with the team that drafts his son.

If LeBron opts in, he will be making $51.4 million next season and be an unrestricted free agent in the 2025 offseason.

Bronny James to the Lakers? Why all signs currently point to LeBron James' son joining him in L.A.

The Lakers have the shortest odds to draft LeBron James' eldest son

Bronny James is expected to stay in the 2024 NBA Draft. Sorry, Duquesne. Bright lights will be on James this week at the 2024 NBA Draft Combine in Chicago, where he's going to want to prove he's a draftable prospect. It probably won't matter how he looks, as his famous father has made it crystal clear he wants to play with his son before he retires.

The Los Angeles Lakers are likely to abide by LeBron James' wishes; whether that comes in the first round at No. 17 overall or in the second will be one of the defining stories of June's draft, which is a two-night event this year.

An unfortunate series of events has seen James fall from a top-30 recruit and projected lottery pick and top-15 prospect in the CBS Sports prospect rankings rankings to a fringe second-round pick.

Bronny suffered a sudden cardiac arrest during a workout in August, which delayed his USC debut to mid-December. On a floundering Trojans team, Bronny struggled to stand out, averaging 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists. He wasn't the only Trojan whose stock fell: Top-3 high school prospect Isaiah Collier shot in poorly en route to averaging 16 points per game and is hoping to be a top-10 pick in June. Kobe Johnson was a projected Round 1 pick entering the year and does not appear in the latest CBS Sports mock draft from Kyle Boone. Even coach Andy Enfield, seeing the writing on the wall, departed for SMU and set off a historic chain reaction that eventually led to John Calipari taking the Arkansas job.

"My take on Bronny is very much the same as it was a year ago -- he was never the one-and-done lottery candidate that some suggested," says 247Sports Director of Scouting Adam Finkelstein. "However, he was a physically gifted athlete who shot the ball well from the 3-point line and was a very good defender. In short, he was a player who could impact winning, but not nearly as dynamic as his name suggested. While his production at USC this year was even less than our conservative projections from a year ago, that came after the summer's cardiac arrest and subsequently missing the entire pre-season."

Regardless, though, Bronny could very well become a Laker. It probably won't happen in the first round. My bet would be it does in the second, if at all. It appears doubtful anybody else will draft him in hopes of wooing LeBron -- LeBron seemingly wants to remain a Laker and wants Bronny with him. As a result, you can bet that Klutch Sports would discourage any other team from drafting the younger James because of 'Bron's desires. It would be surprising if Bronny even does pre-draft workouts with more than a handful of carefully selected teams.

"I still maintain that Bronny to the Lakers, whether that be in the second-round or as an undrafted two-way, is the most plausible scenario," Finkelstein said. "If not the Lakers, you can bet LeBron, and Klutch by extension, will be very deliberate about what organizations they allow him to be associated with. Oklahoma City, San Antonio and Golden State are a few that could get some consideration."

So, it all boils down to this: Bronny James will likely be a Laker this fall. FanDuel agrees, setting the Lakers at +185 to draft Bronny; the next-shortest odds are the Knicks, at +1400.

This isn't based on his play at USC or even his upcoming performance as the NBA combine. Instead, it's a byproduct of his father's stardom and his correlated influence.

Bronny James attracting wagers to be No. 1 pick in NBA draft

Bronny James is one of the most intriguing prospects in the 2024 NBA draft class -- likely because selecting him could increase the chances for a team to land his legendary father, LeBron James, in free agency. That name recognition is driving an astonishing number of wagers on the younger James in draft markets.

At FanDuel, James has attracted 30% of the tickets to be selected first overall by the Atlanta Hawks, the most for any player at the sportsbook. BetMGM reports that the USC guard has 36.8% of the bets, well ahead of Alex Sarr (-300), who has the second most at 14%. James was not initially listed in the No. 1 overall market at DraftKings but found himself in the field as of Thursday afternoon.
