2026 tOSU Offense Discussion

9 plays, 90 yards, 1:05
4 plays, 49 yards, :39
4 plays, 85 yards, :20
10 plays, 75 yards, 1:17
9 plays, 84 yards, 1:36

I don’t even know what to make of that stat. It’s like it’s a completely different team in those last 2 minutes. They can look uninspired and disinterested for the first 28 minutes and then suddenly flip a switch.

A 96-Second Masterpiece: Inside Ohio State’s Masterful Two-Minute Drill Against Iowa
164415_h.JPG

Ohio State's final drive of the first half in Iowa City was an ideal two-minute drill that put the game away for the Buckeyes just 30 minutes in.

With Ohio State up 10-6 and 1:48 left in the second quarter, the Buckeyes began their final first-half drive at Iowa's 16-yard line. Yet Ohio State didn't panic and seemed to know the result before it even started.

After Ryan Day, Arthur Smith, and Ohio State players praised Julian Sayin for his growth off the field throughout the offseason, he showed his ability as a second-year starter and his leadership as a first-year captain throughout the drive.

Ohio State had two timeouts in its pocket, but Day only needed to call one, showcasing the precision, timeliness and efficiency of the nine-play, 84-yard touchdown drive that allowed Julian Sayin to display his leadership and progression with so much command of the offense, which in turn allowed the rest of the offense to flourish.

The drive began with a 12-yard run by Bo Jackson, as he broke two tackles on one of his best runs of the game. Then, Sayin connected with a wide-open Devin McCuin for a 20-yard completion. Next, a quick 6-yard pass to Brandon Inniss near the sideline allowed Inniss to get out of bounds, stop the clock and Ohio State to huddle for the first time in the drive.

After Jackson ran for a 5-yard first down, Sayin scrambled for 7 yards. Jackson then followed with a 16-yard run of his own, another one that he broke multiple tackles on. But it was that two-play sequence — and what happened between the plays — that showcased the jump and progression Sayin has made in his second season leading Ohio State's offense.

With a newfound ability to run the ball, and with no one open downfield, Sayin took off for that 7-yard scramble. Then, with the no-huddle offense, he stayed patient, took his time, and audibled out of a play and into a run. That led to a 16-yard run by Jackson to give the Buckeyes the ball at the 18-yard line with 34 seconds and two timeouts left.

Wouldn't have guessed Inniss and Boyd would have basically the same amount of snaps through week 5

There was a decent amount of chatter of Boyd consistently performing well in fall camp, sounds like there was some truth to that.

In conjunction with Inniss being a limited player, I don’t think I’m personally surprised. If Boyd continues to block well and take advantage of his targets he might overtake the majority.

I like that the freshmen are keeping upperclassmen on edge. McCuin might have to fight Henry off the entire season if he wants to keep his run (he had a really nice game last week and will need to be ready against IU).

I like it.

Six straight games with the Bucks offense scoring in the last minute of the first half. Has to be a record. Great to see us get our first 100 yd rusher in a game this year. Our rushing game is improving and both Jackson boys looked good against the Terps.
Cook and Van Sickle both did a good job especially considering that it was a last minute move. With that being said, I would love to see Daniels and Sereveld available to play. We could use their experience against a tough Indy defense. Also hoping to get back McCuin for the passing game. It was good seeing Kyle Parker get some playing time though. I think he is going to help us down the road. Nate Roberts is showing that he can be a weapon on offense as well. I expect to see him have some balls thrown his way against the Hoosiers. And maybe, just maybe, Legend Bey will make an impact as well. GO BUCKS!

Not sure if they stick with GVS at tackle if Siereveld can't play, but not sure there's another option. One of the beat guys mentioned Greer, but this would be the worst time for that. Inniss and McCuin will hopefully be back, and give them a better chance in the short game.

Agree on Roberts. He's faster than I expected, and blocking well. Sayin seems to like him too, so that's another safety valve option if the OL can't hold up. But if Siereveld and Daniels can't play, not sure what can be expected from the offense.

Accountability for this sits with Sayin. To even try to take JJ off the table you have to at least double him and someone is open. He just doesn't always see it. I get that this is like me criticizing a strike out against a major league pitcher. I know things move REALLY fast, BUT that's what he's supposed to be good at; fast processing speed, quick release, knows the offense, etc.

The team is gonna go as he goes, excited to see how he continues to mature this year. Gonna need a lot of that maturity this week.

Is it blasphemous to say Zeke was better than Archie? Archie was before my time. Zeke was the best RB I've seen here.
That led me to this chain:

Which raised the tantalizing suggestion of Archie in the Jalin role in 2015.

As for the actual question:
Archie did it a lot longer. He was a lot more productive as a frosh (750 vs 250 yds).

Zeke became a legend in games 13-15.

Game 9 was Archie's last before the Rose Bowl.
Game 9 was Zeke's breakout game vs MSU.

Game 10 was Archie's rose bowl. Which makes it hard to include games 13-15, when Zeke piled up 696 yds and 8 tds.

Zeke hit a higher tier, but Archie was greater for longer. And 2-time is his alone and likely will always be.
