Report: Michigan's Warde Manuel to receive $7 million payout after stepping down as athletic director

Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel will receive a significant financial package after stepping down from his position later this year. According to Front Office Sports’ Amanda Christovich, Manuel’s separation agreement includes a one-time payment of $7 million, along with retirement benefits and reimbursement for legal fees.

Just sayin': Well, $7M + retirement benefits + reimbursement of legal fees = the negotiated rate to keep a fired AD from "blowing the whistle" on scUM.....

Angelique Chengelis of The Detroit News reported Saturday that Manuel will receive a buyout worth $7,143,346, minus tax withholding, within 21 days of the end of his tenure as athletic director. He will also receive a retirement contribution of $108,000 and all retiree benefits, including health plan coverage, as Michigan waived its typical service requirement of 20 years. Additionally, Michigan will pay Manuel’s $82,000 in attorney fees and will give him the typical benefits provided to a former athletic director, including tickets and golf privileges.

Just in case any other Big Ten schools were lining up to hire him, Manuel’s settlement with Michigan also includes a non-compete clause that prevents him from working as an athletic director or senior athletic adviser for any Big Ten school in the next two years.

Manuel will also remain with Michigan as a special advisor to the president, as Michigan president Domenico Grasso has asked Manuel to help the university implement reforms in the athletic department – the athletic department he has led since 2016 – that include strengthening its compliance office, enhancing human resources operations, establishing consistent investigative policies and procedures, improving processes for reporting and escalating concerns, strengthening athletics leadership and organizational structure, and expanding student-athlete health and wellness support

Just sayin': Needless to say the scUM Athletic Department has a lot of skeletons in it's closet and Manuel knows exactly where to find them.

Can these people fucking stop already? No one is going to do anything.

The NCAA was presented with the biggest game fixing scheme in sports history and gave them nothing. What, they going to give them the hammer because the head coach got some?

Seriously just stop. Nothing is happening to these guys. They got away with it. They stole 3 years of college football, won the title, and got away with it.

Worse than that, they’ll run a documentary on the 2023 team in a few years to celebrate it.

Nothing is happening to them.

Other than the ass beating they’re about to catch in 5 months.

Nothing is happening to them.

The more I think about this, the funnier it is to me.

I deal with shit like this a lot in my business life at this point so I can almost imagine it. They, apparently, tried to do what I said they'd do and lean on him to take less (thus the ~800K legal bills) and it failed so spectacularly he got every bit of his full benefits (down to golf privileges) and an extra million.

When your power move is so thoroughly trashed that you end up paying the other sides legal AND they put a penalty fee on you....man oh man. Tsun either hired Mother Fucker Jones to negotiate for them or Warde went full Terminator.

TSUN: "Take $3MM and we won't fire you for cause"

"Ok $7MM, full benefits and we'll pay legal fees but that's our final offer"

Urban F Meyer terrified them so much that they went down this path. Talk about your rival living rent free in your head.

Go back and watch the 2019 Game and you can almost see the moment. I think it was Dobbins long run. They panned to Harbaugh and you could see a fuse blew in that simple, chimp like mind of his.

I think his ego could somehow hold on after being bested by Urban but then when the protege beat him he fucking snapped.

Looking back now it all started after that 2019 edition of The Game.
