That’s what I’m betting on too. I find it difficult for the OC to all of the sudden be a spread, pass heavy or even more balanced in one year. Especially since athletically Underwood is superior to any QB he’s had, also a QB who is not built to run as a primary run threat. he would be more successful in a spread offense. Marshall should be the happiest offensive player. I’d be pissed to be a WR
Which is exactly why you'll see Patricia employ the 3rd "safety" more like a fast outside linebacker when they play in November...unless something significantly changes between now and then. The only system Underwood is really currently fit for is handing it off more often than not. You aren't gonna be successful airing it out with him either with his accuracy issues.
WRs are gonna be pissed anyway. Last year 3 of Utahs top 5 pass catchers were TEs or RBs and the #2. WR only had 15 catches. After the #1 WR the ball pretty much goes to TEs and RBs

They aren't beating Oklahoma without being able to pass the ball either....or Oregon. Or Iowa. Or likely Indiana.
I think they are more likely to go 7-5 than 9-3...and the chances of them getting into the playoffs are around the same as me banging Sydney Sweeney....
And the new staff isn't as beholden to his aura (if that's the right word)....it will be far easier for them to say "well, we tried, he sucks" and go to that other kid that seems to fit their scheme better.I don't see much changing. Whittingham and staff aren't exactly gurus when it comes to developing passers. If Underwood were serious about improving himself he woulda transfered but instead he's holding the bag at scUM to play in a offense that's probably less friendly in terms of getting a QB to the pros than the Sherrona Harbaugh offense.

The comedy that would result from the new staff benching the 12 million dollar man for a generic 4 star freshmen would be some all time stuff. I'm sure Whittingham could give two fucks, he was heading to retirement anyways before desperate scUM came blowing him up. It would ruffle a lot of feathers in the scUM sphere though
and younger brother of CJ Carr the current Notre Dame QB.
He’s going to have figure it out fast too, because they’re trying to put talent around him, but idk if he’ll be good enough to make the right reads consistently and they will also need to lead in every game early. They won’t have the type of offense to strike fast if they get down like 2 or more tds early. The only system Underwood is really currently fit for is handing it off more often than not. I just don’t see them losing 5Gms. This program finds the most ugly ways to win. I don’t see them winning against Oregon. But the rest of those games are toss ups to me. And I hate that they can rely on a defense to keep them in tight games.Which is exactly why you'll see Patricia employ the 3rd "safety" more like a fast outside linebacker when they play in November...unless something significantly changes between now and then.

Underwood couldn’t transfer, he makes too much and I’m sure that contract is ironclad too if Ellison has anything to do with it. Whittingham and his staff are probably the worst coaches this kid can have. they run an offense That is successful, but much more reliant on bigger, stronger as a primary runner than as a passer, but when called upon to pass will almost always move the chains. And the new staff isn't as beholden to his aura (if that's the right word)....it will be far easier for them to say "well, we tried, he sucks" and go to that other kid that seems to fit their scheme better.
They got lucky to not lose 5 last year (including the bowl game) with a far easier schedule. He’s going to have figure it out fast too, because they’re trying to put talent around him, but idk if he’ll be good enough to make the right reads consistently and they will also need to lead in every game early. I don’t see a snowballs chance he benches Underwood. He would have to be the worse QB in all P4, like multiple turnover games and double digit passing in multiple games type bad! His salary dictates that he starts and Whittingham is coming in knowing that. But he has a built in scapegoat if it doesn’t go well, “he wasn’t my guy, if I had my guy I would’ve been successful “. If they don’t make the CFP, or B1G championship he has that line locked and loaded. And even still, he’ll be stuck with Underwood for another season

I think even the Pedsters have a shot at them this year.
