2025 tOSU Offense Discussion

Was happy to see Onianwa put in at RG for Tegra, and the OL seemed to play at their best....granted I think it may have been for only one series but was the 16 play drive for a TD. Might not be an ideal fit but not everything is always ideal....I'd imagine we'll see him with the 1's again at least once.

Is “R-E-S-P-E-C-T” really a male thing ...

Lesmerises reading off the national ranking of punt return yards on average in the Day era today on the podcast was alarming. I know we all know that punt return is not a strength, but man, I just truly don't understand how it's possible they can be literally one of the worst in the country at it.
I'd like to see them not use starters to return punts (or kicks) but instead use backups who aren't likely to see the field much this year and have them really focus on that task. Besides the myriad of WRs or even DBs who might do well, I'd like to see what Sam Williams-Dixon might do. I also don't know if they just don't scout other teams' punters enough or what, but it seems like our punt returner is often too far back to come up and catch shorter punts or too far up to catch long ones. It's truly baffling how long they've been lousy at punt returning no matter who's back there or who's responsible for special teams coaching. The blocking usually seems pretty mediocre as well.

One thing that’s made Ohio State’s pass protection performance so remarkable is the new faces playing for the Buckeyes at both offensive tackle positions. Austin Siereveld is playing left tackle for the first time after sliding out from guard this offseason, and Minnesota transfer Phillip Daniels won the right tackle job and has excelled despite possessing just four starts of experience with the Gophers.

Siereveld and Daniels matched up with 2024 Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Colin Simmons on the edge in Week 1, who had nine sacks to lead all Longhorns last year. Siereveld didn’t allow a single pressure despite the daunting test.

“I have all the pride in the world,” Siereveld said of protecting Sayin’s blindside. “It's my job. No one can touch Julian, or Lincoln if he's in there. But if I let up a sack, I have a horrible game. And I'm gonna get ripped. The media and the fans, it's gonna be a bad day if I let up a sack. But you have to have the mindset that no one can touch the quarterback. You can't even let up the pressure.”

From Sayin’s perspective, the offensive line has played amazingly thus far. Their keeping him upright has facilitated a fantastic beginning to his time as Ohio State’s starting quarterback; he’s completed 79.5% of his passes at a gaudy 11.1 yards per pass attempt.

“The offensive line has been phenomenal,” Sayin said. “I mean, zero sacks in two weeks, it's been great. They've done a really good job in the run game and in the pass game, just keeping me protected.”

Few things I think….

Let Julian throw the ball down the field. He’s very good at it.

Also, Bo Jackson is RB1.

Finally this might be unpopular but I’ve behaved tonight so here’s goes. We should give Graham a look at slot instead of Innis. I know that Sayin missed him on a few throws but even last week Innis has absolutely not looked explosive. Another week of #1 struggling. He’s a team captain so I doubt it but right now he’s giving this offense the least production of any of the go to guys. There’s no way Graham doesn’t give you more here in the slot.

1 thing seems to be true imo. The RB pecking order should be Jackson as starter and clear lead dog, Donaldson as short yardage battering ram and then let Peoples grind the defenses into dust in the 4th quarter.

Agree on Jackson and Donaldson. I think Peoples can be a game breaker, but needs this season to see things better. Good 3rd down back and will occasionally get chunk yards.

Yeah, even though Sayin missed Inniss numerous times. He gets little separation, and kind of just sits after his route. Rodgers and Graham deserve some slot PT
