2024 tOSU Offense Discussion

“WE BOTH MOTIVATE EACH OTHER.” Earlier this week, Ohio State named Quinshon Judkins and TreVeyon Henderson as its Buck(s) of the Week. The star running backs were electric in Ohio State’s win over Western Michigan, combining for 19 carries, 174 yards and four touchdowns in the contest.

In a sitdown with C.J. Barnett, Judkins and Henderson discussed how their relationship has grown and improved since Judkins transferred to Ohio State in January. They also shared some of their hopes for the Buckeye backfield as the season continues and tougher opponents arrive on the schedule.

Judkins and Henderson on their relationship on and off the field

JUDKINS: “I think we both motivate each other throughout practice, throughout the week. We both help each other prepare and keep each other in the right mindset to continue to grow each and every week and go out there and perform.”
HENDERSON: “Just coming into practice and trying to give it all each and every day, stacking days, man. When it comes to Saturday, just spending it out on the field and encouraging each other and trying to lead each other.”

Imo this is Treveyon's perfect role. As an elevated change of pace RB. He finally has a RB that can be used every down as more of a between the tackles, but has slightly more power and doesn't lose much in the speed department when Trey is on the sideline. Kind of what we thought we had in Chip and Chop but they could never stay healthy. And Judkins is a tier above them both. This is a hell of a RB duo. And them throw in Howard's legs too, and it's a dangerous backfield

The Ohio State football team is officially a run-first team now

The Ohio State football team has found its identity three games into the season.

The Ohio State football team won another dominant game against Marshall over the weekend. This time, the score was 49-14. In this game, it was the offense that really showed what they could do. They were an explosive unit that was able to make big plays almost at will.

Part of the reason why they were so explosive is because of the run game. While the Buckeyes did have passes of 68 and 53 yards for touchdowns, it was the ground game that really shined in this one. Quinshon Judkins had a run of 86 yards for a touchdown. He showed he might be the best back that the Buckeyes have.

Judkins finished the day with 173 rushing yards and two touchdowns on just 14 carries. The transfer from Ole Miss really showed that he can be a home-run hitter instead of just more than a power back. TreVeyon Henderson is no slouch either. He had a 40-yard touchdown run too and scored two touchdowns of his own.

The Ohio State football team is a run-first team

The Ohio State Buckeyes have been searching for their identity this season. It's clear that they are a running team this year. With Henderson and Judkins racking up yards like this, they are a run-first team that can also pass it really well. Chip Kelly wants to be great on the ground.

In each of the last two games, the offensive line has blocked a lot better in the ground game. They have been able to open up holes and get into the second level. That has certainly helped the Buckeyes gobble up chunks of yards. The play-action pass is going to become a big weapon this year.

Man it makes me happy to see us run the ball like that. We know we can throw the ball at will, but being so dominant in the run game almost brings Woody back to life. Regardless of competition, we were having issues running the ball against teams like Marshall in past years, so you have to be encouraged. That said, we'll get a true sense of where the run game is at against Iowa.

Shout out to Zone 6 btw for their blocking… what a huge turnaround to have the ability to run the quick screens again. Seriously been refreshing to see.

Edited: rewatched the Marshall highlights and wow do our TEs block well. Especially Will Kacmarek who was just standing dudes up.

Do yourself a favor today and watch Will Kacmarek on Qs long TD run. He reminds me of Jeff Heurman a ton which this offense has sorely needed.

If they can still say that after this week, I'll be on board.
I don't pay PFF, so I can only go by sacks, but Iowa is currently 10th in the Big Ten in sacks per game.

Having said that... I agree with you. I think this game is a bit of a litmus test for the trenches.

But I also think it's a huge match-up problem for Iowa. I think there is a danger of getting fools' gold from this game.
