2024 tOSU Defense Discussion

I think there’s a few pretty noticeable mismatches in this game.

1. Our DL vs their OL
2. Our WR vs their secondary

If our offensive line holds up and I considering their past two performances I wouldn’t see why they wouldn’t. Then I’m not sure how this is closer than 10 points.

Just no turnovers and no special team disasters and we are in good condition.

The last two games have been pretty amazing when it comes to penalties and turnovers. I don't consider the Int in the TN game a turnover. Both sides of the ball have been playing error free for the most part. Keep it up and we should bring home a trophy.

For sure… I’m ok with turnovers if they’re aggressive ones but we just can’t have a pick 6 or something stupid.

I think our defense is going to force turnovers in this game.

Me too. They're very due, Ewers is susceptible to them, and they could have had several versus Oregon with better hands and a bit more luck. I'm concerned about Will forcing the ball and would like to see something like the TN game plan with some pretty quick roll out type throws and RPOs for him.

The changes in this team remind me late 2000s and mid 2010s SEC teams that looked great in some games, mid in others, and sometimes picked up a questionable loss. They also played the top talent in the country so nothing shocked them and they understood exactly what was needed to win the biggest games.

There’s clearly been schematic changes as well, but players not just playing, but embracing their roles in a structure is the hardest thing in sports and we’re seeing that, especially on defense. Everyone is on the same page, everyone is excited about it, and they’re hungry. Just need it for 2 more wins.

One big thing I've noticed is a heavy rotation on the DL that we had been reluctant about in the past. That rotation is benefitting us in so many ways. First, you have all of JT, Sawyer, Tyleik and Hamilton fresh out there with 100% energy each play. Second, the cumulative effect has been positive for those rotating in...Curry, Jackson and Houston have all really played well and there is very little (or no) drop off when they are in. Finally, and only finally because the best need to play on a title hunt, but we are getting the utmost quality reps to who will be our DL next year...that cannot be understated because we legit lose our whole starting DL in JT, Sawyer, Hamilton and Tyleik.
