2024 tOSU Defense Discussion

Ohio State has still allowed the fewest red zone incursions of any team in the country (2)

So if you sort the red zone defense table by "attempts" Ohio State is at the top

If you sort it by TD%, they're at the bottom

Let's hope that the sample size remains so small that we don't concern ourselves with that last stat for the rest of the year

The LBs seemed to be put in bad situations constantly yesterday. They seemed hesitant and slow to react.

If there was a reason to be vanilla, that was probably it. LBs are the weak link and have been targeted by opposing OCs in games 1 & 3. Get more film in tough situations and learn, I guess.

Until we see conference games, I don't think we should despair about a lack of aggression and adjustments.

Sonny seems to be out of position every play and his tackling form is terrible. He never gets low enough. I understand that he is on the taller size for a LB, but damn get lower and plant the tackle with your shoulder.

Reese will keep getting more snaps. He rotated in more as the game went on. Sonny might end up being the 3rd LB at the end of the year.

No LBs including Sonny are filling the hole, they are just sitting back and waiting for the RB. I really don’t get it. I’m tired of watching us always give up positive yards on a run.

If we sit back and allow Iowa, UM and others to hit the line with no one coming up to stop them it’s going to be a struggle.

Saw this on the Rivals board and had to ,

Our D was sooooooo bad, that we gave up 264 total yards, including a whopping 2.9 yards per carry. On top of that, we allowed an astronomical 139 passing yards, at 5.1 yards per attempt. And only had 1 sack and 7 TFLs. FIRE THE ENTIRE DEFENSIVE STAFF
I many times hate posting the day of a game, because emotions are always high. But this post, and the one from @DaddyBigBucks on the previous page put things in perspective.

The only real complaint here is we couldn’t get off the field in the first half. I heard Birm/Austin say that Ryan Day was really upset about the rush man package not being used.

Anyrate, we really were dinked and dunked to death the first half.

I feel like we say this every year...and every year it never ends up being true lol.
Yeah I have to admit… when have we ever all the sudden broken out a new way of playing lol

Interesting point by The Podcast this morning (Zach Boren). They wanted to see Hicks as a rush end and I have to say I agree. I’d love to see Hicks/Sawyer at end and then JT/Curry at DT.

I think Simon/Reese are by far our best at LB and if we are being honest Powers needs a better look too. I just hope we aren’t going to waste Hicks like we did Browning just because LJ didn’t want others in his room.

Yeah, as long as they keep the "sample size small" there is no problems.
