I think of all fanbases that ours would know better than to judge a team by how they perform against Purdue.

Imagine being told any time the last 20 years that Michigan coming off a National Championship season would only be only 3 point favorites at Illinois.

Bielema is turning Illinois into a respectable team, which is something that should be near impossible to do.

I think Bielema will out-coach Moore and knock Michigan out of the Top 25 where they belong.

Fixed. You were missing an asterisk.

Check him out in his Marine Dress uniform. He looks just like Doug Niedermeyer.

I want to believe -- a case for optimism

I wish Michigan beat Washington, of course.
But I am seeing things that I like and give me hope for games to come.
I've thought from the beginning that this team has a lot of talented players. Will Johnson, Grant, Graham, Stewart, Hausmann, Paige, Loveland, Mullings, The Don, Bredeson. The Oline are new starters, but multiple of those guys looked decent last year in important parts of soem big games. And we have new guys who are inexperienced yet talented.
QB has been an important question, but I like Tuttle at QB. He was the #11 QB recruit in 2018 (in a year that included Trevor Lawrence, Justin Fields, JT Daniels, Tanner McKee, Tyler Shough), and ended up being backup to Penix and then JJ (two 1st-round NFL picks). So we haven't seen him with much playing time -- he could be quite decent.
Our coaches are new as well, and clearly have needed some on-the-job learning. I think Wink can be a good DC with some adjustment to college football. Because I see the defense doing an impressive job at times. I think adjustments and continued improvement by some of the newer players could make a huge difference. For example, Hill and Berry are younger guys. I've seen them make outstanding plays, and then some busts. The frequency of busts will, I think, go down as they gain experience.
Offense with Tuttle opens up more options on what the team can do. I am encouraged by Crippen at center and Persi at RT. Please, coaches, put Mullings and The Don out there together at times, and pass more to The Don. The offense looked quite good for a bit in the Washington game until derailed by turnovers, which I think can be reduced because they didn't look to be the result of the worst judgement.
When I watch various highly ranked teams play -- Ohio State, Oregon, Alabama, Tennessee -- they don't look invincible this year. Michigan can have a chance against teams of that level if they clean up defense some and improve the offense a bit -- which is within the realm of possibility. I don't think it will require drastic changes for things to look different going forward.

If a guy was a recruit in 2018! and STILL AROUND in 2024, it's because he was never good enough to be a pro and is just clinging to the dream. The guy has never shown he is anything more than a Indiana level backup QB. It's hilarious watching some of the DFBIA still swear he's going to help turn around their season.

Seriously. Their answer at QB is a guy who's trying to Tommy Boy his way out of having to get a job.

The replies talking about Tuttle "getting more experience" are particularly hilarious. Guy is in his fucking 7TH YEAR! and some of them are talking as if he's a freshman
