inducement is prohibited
OSU and Miami were openly bidding on Jeremiah Smith and other players during the off season. No they didn't announce the bids, but you had several money motivated players going back and forth between OSU and Miami.
The one that sticks out to me the most is Cam Ward. Cam Ward was a difference maker for Miami against Florida. If OSU had him they would be far and away the National Championship favorites.
- Nov 30th Cam Ward has 10 Transfer Offers of at Least $1 Million (That's 10 schools who are guilty of inducement. OSU is one of them.)
- Dec 1st or 2nd Ryan Day has 1:1 with Kyle McCord and does not commit to him as OSU's QB for the following year. Day doesn't do this if he doesn't think he has Cam Ward. No one (other than Miami) is outbidding OSU.
- Dec 3 Day is non-committal about McCord as QB at a press conference.
- Dec 4 to Jan 2 Transfer portal is open. Schools aren't allowed to talk to players before they are in the portal. Though players can talk to other players and alumni (NIL).
I've posted this before, but it really gets me that Michigan is in hot water for cheeseburgers (during COVID) and the Stalions BS when other schools are blatantly flaunting the rules in public and absolutely nothing happens. No one even questions it. Inducing Cam Ward to leave WSU has more impact than just about anything you can think of other than maybe knee capping Cam Ward before you play Miami.
I'm rooting for Kyle McCord this year. He had a good opener at Syracuse against Ohio University with a career high in passing yards 354, 4 TD and 1 INT.
My fantasy scenario:
- OSU falters with WIll Howard, has a QB controversy that pisses off all of their QBs. OSU loses to Michigan and our walk on QB. Ohio State also loses to Iowa (Cade), Oregon (for giggles), and Nebraska (Riaola). They do beat Penn State. They miss the play-offs. OSU's QBs all leave at the end of the year after being induced.
- Kyle McCord gets Syracuse into the playoffs. Riaola gets Nebraska into the playoffs. Cam Ward gets Miami into the playoffs. Michigan makes the playoffs.
- OSU hires their same PI firm to investigate Miami and Nebraska for outbidding them on QBs and leak the information to the press.
- The subsequent fallout implicates OSU as doing the same things as the other schools.
- Ryan Day is fired. (Unfortunately)
- OSU hires their version of RR.
Alternate more far fetched is OSU and Syracuse get matched up in the playoffs and Syracuse wins.
