2024 Depth Chart Projection

He was a passer but more importantly he was about winning football.
This was exactly why I was sold on Troy Smith over Justin Zwick in garbage time, trailing Iowa by several scores. Similar to Haskins infamously claiming he should be starting over JT publicly, Troy Smith was so damn competitive he was going to will himself to be better than anyone on the roster when given an opportunity. That's what the QB room seems to lack at the moment, someone so bent on winning the job and the big games that it's just visible when they're on the field.

Amen. I have seen enough from Brown to be pretty convinced he isn't that guy. McCord could if he overhauls his demeanor and leadership. But the guy that just has it in his soul is Kienholz imo...of course that has to translate to success on gameday, but he needs to get a serious look at the starting job next year.

EVALUATING THE LIKELIHOOD THAT OHIO STATE PURSUES TRANSFERS AT EACH POSITION

Regardless of what bowl game Ohio State ends up playing in, the Buckeyes must also begin turning their attention toward filling out their 2024 roster.

The first transfer window for the 2024 offseason will open Monday, setting forth a wave of movement across college football as players who choose to leave their current teams look for new homes. Ohio State’s player personnel staff, led by general manager Mark Pantoni and college scouting coordinator Billy Homer, will be tasked with evaluating all of the top players who enter the transfer portal and consulting with Ohio State’s coaching staff on which players could be good additions to the Buckeyes’ roster.

Ohio State became more aggressive in the transfer portal in 2023 than it had been in past years, adding nine players across seven different position groups. That doesn’t mean the Buckeyes will add that many transfers this year, as they’re in line to sign a larger 2024 recruiting class (currently at 22 commits with the potential to add a few more) than they did in 2023 (20). But it does show the Buckeyes will be on the hunt for players who can fill holes on the roster or provide potential upgrades.

While the portal isn't officially open yet, it's already started to fill up with graduate transfers and players whose teams have made coaching changes, while other players who aren’t yet eligible to enter the portal have also begun announcing they will do so next week. It still might be too early to say exactly which players Ohio State should target, but we can take a look at the makeup of next year’s roster to identify which positions Ohio State has the most reason to pursue transfers at.

If the right player enters the portal, it’s certainly possible Ohio State could add a transfer at any position. And the Buckeyes’ specific roster needs will fluctuate over the next month based on which of their own players they lose to the transfer portal and/or the NFL draft. But based on which players we currently would and wouldn’t expect back with the Buckeyes in 2024, these are our current projections on which positions the Buckeyes are most likely to target, could target and are least likely to target in the transfer portal this offseason.

Just sayin': Good read.....

I dunno, Stephen A Smith said he was more of a runner than a passer. That would be a really stupid thing for a professional sports commentator to say, so it must be true!
I forget which one of the OSU beat writers said it, but in response to SAS's comment he said: 'Haskins reminds me of a gazelle when he runs. A gazelle with a lion gnawing at it's spine"

Good read. Depressing to see the amount of players considering leaving early or not return - kind of staggering actually!
Most of the guys supposed to leave, are guys who should leave. Either for the NFL or to the Portal, tbh. We have to embrace the new reality, if a guy hasn’t produced by year 3, dont expect him to return, and Time to find his replacement. Portal along with HS recruiting is the world we’re in.

RB depth is looking mighty thin for next year now assuming Henderson leaves still and Lyle jumps ship to Miami. Gonna need to hit the portal for a guy. Heck even if Henderson did decide to return, might need to add someone anyway for depth purposes.
Henderson back obviously is huge...probably a big reason we saw Miyan and Pryor depart tbh. But depth is still brutally thing for a position like RB. Henderson and Hayden are all that we really know right now, hopefully Caffey is back. Peoples I think is our next great RB, but not sure if he is ready year 1. Lyle is probably gone. So we need to likely hit the portal for a guy this year that can come in and be reliable when we need them...honestly just like we had in Chip.

I will probably hold off on a projected lineup until the most recent portal window closes, already a ton of movement and there is likely a ton more to come whether for good or bad. Plus we are in limbo with guys that might leave for the NFL like MH, JT, Sawyer and Hancock (off the top of my head), so it makes no sense right now to guess the depth chart.

I think RB can be replaced pretty easy. Especially since 2 of the guys saw limited time while at OSU due to multiple injuries and the other was good but can be replaced by a frosh or Portal arrival. Being able to get their best RB back would be massive, and it can be argued that Hayden would’ve been the best RB in ‘24 if Treveyon left and the others stayed. And I don’t think anyone would be mad at Hayden getting the ball more in rotation with Henderson. I’m curious to see if People’s is a EE, because it’d be great if he was and can get a hard start. He’s going to be special. Lyle hurts, it does Because SWD is a wild card. But there’s so many Portal options
