2024 College Football Playoffs Discussion (12 Team Format)

While you always want to beat your rival and win the conference the CCG is nothing more than an early playoff game and, as we saw last night, a chance for a key player to get injured. They don't really get a bye. They just start the playoffs early.
I sorta get what you're saying, but neither the SEC nor B1G championship games were "playoff" games as neither loser was eliminated.

The playoffs got expanded just a little too soon. If the P-5 had shrunk to the P-4 a little earlier, they could have made the CCGs the quarterfinals, made ND join a conference if they wanted in, and told teams to win their conference if they wanted to make the Final 4 teams. That’s what I was hoping for but it didn’t work out.

I would have also liked that. Would have kept winning the conference as an important goal.

So I’ve got :

01 Oregon
02 Georgia
03 Boise St
04 Arizona St (don’t think they’ll jump Boise)

05 Texas hosting
12 Clemson (lowest of 5 highest conf champs)

06 Penn St hosting
11 Bama or SMU (name vs deserving)

07 Notre Dame hosting (think with NIU loss they stay behind CCG losers)
10 Indiana

08 Ohio St hosting
09 Tennessee

#1 then plays 8-9 winner
#4 then plays 5-12 winner

#2 then plays 7-10 winner
#3 then plays 6-11 winner
This is where I’m at. A team (ND, OSU) should not benefit from not playing in a CCG, unless a CCG loser got completely exposed. Question is whether SMU losing to an 17th ranked 3-loss team is “exposed”.

The ESPN goons are already saying that it’s only low hanging fruit internet conspiracy that Bama will be getting in purely on brand name
One thing that might be different…might be…is that it’s not Sabans Alabama anymore. If is was Saban, they’d be figuring out a way to get 9-3 Alabama the #4 seed somehow. But now that he’s gone, they may not have quite the overpowering name they once did.
