2024 College Football Playoffs Discussion (12 Team Format)

Penn State, please. I don’t care about the revenge factor. It’s a familiar opponent that I feel the Bucks truly have a psychological advantage over (almost an OSU v UM thing). Not to mention the pure talent, JTT, and most importantly James Franklin.

At that point it would be doing what you know you can and finish the mission.

I can eat my words but I would feel extremely extremely confident if it’s Penn State at a neutral site for the Champ.

Agreed this ND team would be a real pain to play. They bring and seem locked in as well.
Totally agreed I’d rather play Penn State if we win.

I don’t think it’ll be Penn State though.

This ND is odd as fuck. They don’t throw the ball but run a ton of 3-4 wide stuff. It’s maddening because you know they aren’t going to throw it yet their tall stupid QB finds ways to run for 50+ every game.

Big thing vs either one is making them chase points. Get up 14 on ND and it’ll be hard for them.

Hard pass on Penn State. It will be much more satisfying beating Notre Dame back down to earth instead of beating Penn State for the eleventy-billionth time. Plus it really is hard to beat a talented team twice in the same season. We are better than PSU no doubt, but it's not a gimme imo.

As long as we win the NC, I'm happy either way. Gotta get through Texas in Dallas first. Guarantee some ref fuckery will happen in favor of Texas, especially since they're Espn's and the SEC's last hope
I don’t care how they get there or who they beat either. I’ll take the “easier” path, no shame here. People don’t really remember those details. To me that’s beating Penn State for the eleventy billionth time lol.

But agree. UT in Dallas with SEC’s reputation on the line is going to be a problem first.

I mean Riley was 15/24 for under 100 yards passing. It’s crazy. He was under a decent amount of pressure so some of those were throwaways but still. There isn’t a passing threat - it’s the one small slot lacrosse receive. Yet they still find a way to be annoying with Leonard’s legs - saving sacks and busting long runs.

I was watching with 2 ND fans and similar to what they did with Estime, it’s boggling how they get away from the run game at times. Love and Price are a great duo. Love is definitely banged up and running on fumes but Price filled in with some bursts.

It’ll also be interesting what’s left for either team after what’s sure to be another physical rock fight.

No college teams will have played this many games, against consecutive top teams and there’s small injuries mounting for everyone. Who knows what version you get in the final.

It literally is a manifestation of delusional narcissism. War, famine, terrorism, genocide, disease and poverty. God can't be bothered to meddle in such trivial matters. God needs to be focused on your foosball team scoring more points that the other foosball team because you're just that important. #GodsPlan
The explanation is simple. God smiles on me because I believe. Those suffering have rejected God, and are thus not protected from the evils of this world like I am. All they need to do is accept God’s love.

I'm at the point that I believe, genuinely, that a mostly one dimensional offense is NOT going to be effective against this defense. Notre Dame's OLine is definitely better than what we've seen but, that would be my biggest concern. ND is definitely a scarier matchup but if OSU stays on fire and gets UT outta the way, the difference between ND and PSU is only marginal from my perspective.

Notre Dame will now probably win by 30 (against PSU) and make me look foolish.

That is remarkably on par with, well, every other CFB program. Go back and check your math. I have it on good authority from the expert himself that OSU’s lunatic fringe is remarkably larger.

Why the Rose Bowl proves the Ohio State Lunatic Fringe was right

Pundits have been as hard on Ohio State fans as the fans have been on their team. But the Buckeye faithful have held their team to a very high standard for one reason. They knew Ohio State was capable of achieving it.

Former Buckeye and current ESPN commentator and SEC advocate Kirk Herbstreit’s most recent attack on the fanbase of Ohio State has coined a new phrase among the Buckeye faithful. While former head coach Urban Meyer like to refer to Ohio State fans as Buckeye Nation, the SEC’s biggest fan went with “lunatic fringe.”

His reason for this was that many Ohio State fans were willing to find a new coach after the embarrassing and worst defeat in my life for the Buckeyes in the 13-10 loss at the end of the regular season. Instead of a simple comment about how much The Game means to Buckeyes everywhere and brings out their strong passions and love for their team (even if in his view they’re misguided) he decided to blame the issue on the people who bleed scarlet and gray.

Herby spent much of the broadcast of Ohio State’s victory over Tennessee taking shots at the fans who are the lifeblood of Ohio State. Ohio State’s trouncing of the Vols and blow of Oregon in the Rose Bowl might have the broadcaster thinking he was vindicated and that only the nuts had had enough with 0-4. The 41-21 Rose Bowl victory only proved the lunatic fringe right.

It may be the lunatic fringe to some, but being an Ohio State Buckeye means The Game is the most important game (short of a national championship game, and even then, they’re even) that will be played in any given season.

Does wanting to move on from an otherwise successful coach because of his struggles in that game make one part of the lunatic fringe? If so, then so is wanting to retain that coach. Because who you say you are, the games you say have the most meaning, the history you love, all of that matters.

The truth is that both sides of that argument are part of the lunatic fringe. The ones who look deeply at the team and game they love are the exception. The rule is the people who sell their tickets to visiting teams, the people who don’t make lots of noise at the Shoe, and tell people to sit down, and who leave the games way too early.

The lunatic fringe was right about these Buckeyes because they know the game of football enough and their Buckeyes enough to know that they had games like the win over Tennessee and the Rose Bowl in them all along. The criticized Ryan Day included! The disagreement among us was that some had said that Day just needed another chance, and some had said he’d had more than enough chances.

The lunatic fringe understands a coach in Day’s shoes earns every ounce of criticism so must be given just as many of their flowers when they succeed. And boy has Day earned them against Tennessee and winning the Rose Bowl! The lunatic fringe knows Ohio State is not done, that the mission is not over.

They’re half of the way to that mountain and a stumble would re-shine a light on the former four-game stretch and the pressure would return. But this is Ohio State, where greatness is expected. That’s the way it’s supposed to be and while it may make you the lunatic fringe, it doesn’t make you a bad Buckeye.

Maybe it’s because there’s a local rock n’ roll radio station out of Cincinnati, Ohio that has proudly called itself the lunatic fringe for decades. Maybe it’s a pro wrestler from Cincinnati, Ohio who wore that term as a badge of honor. Maybe it’s because when you take a negative thing someone has called you and you wear it like a king wears his royal title you take the negative power away from it.
