2024 College Football Playoffs Discussion (12 Team Format)

The biggest problem I see with the format is giving byes to teams that clearly do not and did not deserve it. They should make CFP rankings the basis for the seeds, otherwise you get some absurd results. Boise State was the 9th-rated team for a reason, they never should have gotten a bye. PSU got a ridiculously easy draw with the 10th- and 9th-ranked teams being their only obstacles to being in the top-4, as the #6 seed. PSU probably should have been the #4 seed, but that should put you in line to play the 5th-best team to make the top-4. Arizona State as the 12th team also should not have gotten a bye. I realize they want to try and limit the wear and tear on teams that played in a conference championship game by giving them a bye, but you're always going to have more than 4 teams that played in their conference championship game in a 12-team format. They need to get rid of the auto bye for conference championships - winning the conference is the reward for winning the conference championship, it's always been that way, and getting a bye in the playoff shouldn't factor into it.

...WORTH

I see your point; however, I still think that there should be some reward for winning a conference championship. Besides fucking Notre Dame is a good thing too. Also note: the results from just 1 year isn't a big enough sample to establish a trend. It is interesting that the four 1st round home teams all won and are in the semis though. They just got "hot" at the right time. I doubt that any CFP seating will change for next year. In 2025 the CFPs will still have 12 teams; however, in 2026 they go to 14.

Based on who they beat and the scores so far; it wouldn't surprise me to see an all B1G National Championship Game.

I have to be real… I don’t particularly like the idea of playing either Penn State or ND.

ND because of their TCUN qualities and Penn State because they’ll have the revenge thing going.

I think we will beat both if we get to the final but ND specifically is a concern.
Penn State, please. I don’t care about the revenge factor. It’s a familiar opponent that I feel the Bucks truly have a psychological advantage over (almost an OSU v UM thing). Not to mention the pure talent, JTT, and most importantly James Franklin.

At that point it would be doing what you know you can and finish the mission.

I can eat my words but I would feel extremely extremely confident if it’s Penn State at a neutral site for the Champ.

Agreed this ND team would be a real pain to play. They bring and seem locked in as well.

The NCAA rulebook states that you can't substitute more than 11 players "while the ball is in play" (AR 3-5-2-I) https://www.ncaapublications.com/p-4705-2024-ncaa-football-rules-book-online-only.aspx

Replay shows the long snapper had not gotten set or touched the ball before the mass substitution, making it a dead ball and a legal play https://youtu.be/B78JMxYQoDM?si=OSmYEWxMdApCjGD_&t=800
When Notre Dame ran off the field, they need to let Georgia make their substitutions, too. So why not take your time? Sub them out 1-by-1. Force a delay of game.

Hard pass on Penn State. It will be much more satisfying beating Notre Dame back down to earth instead of beating Penn State for the eleventy-billionth time. Plus it really is hard to beat a talented team twice in the same season. We are better than PSU no doubt, but it's not a gimme imo.

As long as we win the NC, I'm happy either way. Gotta get through Texas in Dallas first. Guarantee some ref fuckery will happen in favor of Texas, especially since they're Espn's and the SEC's last hope
