Ryan Day thinking about short yardage situations now that Devin Brown is out:

Fade to MHJ should be #1 option near the goaline every game. It's one of those plays where it doesn't matter if they know it's coming. You can play out of formations where he cannot be doubled.

I think I mentioned it previously, but I’ll re-up again after yesterday, the TEs are a WAY bigger problem in the run game than the OL at this point.
Bump.

We should hire Rutgers’ TE coach.

Edit: At the very least, can we call plays that don’t require really hard blocks (ie stretch) from the TEs? That last drive looked okay.

We do need to bring someone in who can teach the TEs blocking technique. I swear they just lean on people half the time. Punch the hands into the chest, grab the middle of their shoulder pads and drive through them to hide the holding—exactly like their TEs do.

Before the offense and McCord get butchered by fans, let’s do a little comparison with our rivals up north. They get to play Rutgers early on in the season in Ann Arbor. After the 1st half, scUM is leading 14-7, and the 2nd scUM TD comes 1min and a half left in the 1st half. They beat Rutgers 31-7, with 3 offensive TDs, 1 pick 6 and 1 FG.

On the road, the Buckeyes play Rutgers and end the 1st half down 9-7 to Rutgers. OSU scores 28 in the 2nd half: 3 offensive TDs(Marvin is going to be a CFB all timer, not just OSU legend) and 1 pick 6.

The national narrative is that scUM is a hard nose team, while OSU struggles. McCarthy goes 16-21 214yds TD and is the next John Elway. McCord goes 19-26 189yds 3TDs INT and is the worst QB in OSU history. im not saying that McCord is an amazing QB, but I do think he’s good enough to beat scUm and win an NC. He doesnt make the stupid hero plays that many QBs try. We don’t need Vince Young, Cam Newton or Johnny Football, a title can be won with a game manager. He just needs to make the right play at the right time and they will continue to roll.

The more I watch the offense, the more I'm certain the weak spot is Hinzman. He's just getting bullied constantly. His snaps are inconsistent. He's just not good. I think the guard play looks worse than it is because of Hinzman.

The guards aren't getting to the second level because Hinzman isn't getting primary leverage on the DT. He should be locking a guy up so the guard can chip and move to the second level but he's allowing the DT to engage the guard and keep them occupied.

I'd be interested in seeing Jones at C, Fryar at RG and Montgomery or someone else at RT.

Maybe at the end of September, but not right now. I thought Jones had already tried center and it didn't work.

Is what it is right now. I do think he and the OL have gotten better (with help from Henderson). Next big jump I could expect would be Bowl/CFP practice.

I believe Jones might have played some Center against Sparty and Vihami filled in at right guard. That could be the answer going forward.
