This is really their final chance before they have a huge drop-off after this season with so many players finally leaving.

It would be classic Simple Jim to fudge that up by worrying about preparing for the playoff before they even get there and losing like 3 regular season games. (and then getting pummeled by some 2nd tier SEC school in a bowl game)

Aren't they recruiting well now though? I don't follow it, but I did see a top 3 class being mentioned.

Top 3 class currently only because of the quantity. They won't be that at the end when the other schools catch up in # of commits'.

If you go by average player ranking they are around 10th. That will likely fall too as the SEC teams start racking up more quality commits' and scUM continues their deep dive 3* hunt they've been on after their fast start.

Ohio State has SEVEN less commits' and has more "points" than them in the 247 composite team rankings.

They are more on par with Oregon/Florida State type teams in this years class at the moment than Ohio State/Bama/UGA. It's not bad but nowhere near elite.

They’re also “processing” players at a substantially increased rate these days. I believe they were almost 20 players over the scholarship limit in January and I’m not sure where they’re at now. And it’s not like they’re crushing the portal, they’re basically shuffling deck chairs (hopefully on the Titanic) with their departures and additions.

I’m sure you can imagine Harbaugh not being an expert at navigating those complex situations and conversations with the level of nuance required to maintain a top level locker room atmosphere.

I’ve said before, but given how they have been shuffling coaches with the massive help of big brother, Harbaugh undermining the program with NFL flirting every offseason, several years of sub par recruiting, processing a ton of players this offseason, and the overall arrogance and hubris baked into the essence of the program—these assholes have a drastic change of fortune coming their way at some point.

They bitched out of the 2020 game as cowardly as you can possibly imagine, and the fuckers have lucked out by tap dancing around all these factors that should hurt the strength of their program. My understanding of karmic justice will be shattered if they successfully continue that tap dance for any length of time into the future.

They fucking BENEFITED greatly from a global pandemic. Those extra COVID years that allowed players to stay longer really gave them a big edge. Because they don't have players like Ohio State that leave after 3 years. Most of their contributors are types that will stay 5/6 year as long as they can. Them ducking Ohio State and just taking a whole L overall that COVID year ended up being greatly in their favor. Which is complete BS and things will eventually right themselves again.

This is the last year that benefit really stands. Next year we will see what they really are again when they don't have all of those mega veterans to lean on and have to actually play these meh recruiting classes from the last couple of years.

So, the Choate Rosemary Hall pipeline is still running.

I'd personally like to see them get routed by like a Missouri. Don't even give them the satisfaction of losing to Florida or Auburn. It's gotta be a fucking Missouri or Kentucky. Some team that stumbled to 8 wins and ends up in a better bowl game because 2 SEC teams probably make the playoff.

According to MGoBlog’s scholarship chart, they’re still ten over the limit at the moment.

It's really hilarious considering the amount of whining they used to do about SEC schools doing this exact same thing and all the "THOSE SCHOOLS DONT PLAY SCHOOL" type nonsense. But now it's "different" and all ok.

The "WELL THEY GOT THEIR MICHIGAN EDUCATION AND NOW ARE MOVING ON" excuse seems to be the favorite. Even though this is 100% not true when it's guys who have been there 1 or 2 years getting processed out.

Adding to this, its becoming more and more obvious that if you want to be a major FBS coach in a major league, you absolutely must be the CEO of your program. Between staffing, recruiting and youth camps, NIL coordination, program fundraising, and infrastructure planning - the job of any head coach is to make sure all the oars are paddling in the same direction, on the same cadence, at the same speed...etc

Some coaches realize this: Day, Smart, Saban, Riley, Kelly, Cristobal (it's early still), and to a lesser extent Franklin, Sweeny and Freeze.

You can't be "Just a Ball Coach" anymore.

They hired a guy to do this role for them. We refer to him as their 'tard wrangler. They had a good one for a couple of years and then he quit not that long ago. Apparently people only have so much wrangling in them when dealing with an over the top amount of 'tard.

I am curious to see how the program's direction changes because it's recent rise coincided with that's guy's arrival. Curious to see what impact his departure has.

@BigWoof31 his name is Biff Poggi, in case you think this is being exaggerated and want to look it up.
