Yeah I'm sort of curious about what type of retirement it is....they don't retire typically Captains anymore without a medical either and he's far too young to have gotten to 20 years.

I know you're aware of the system (likely better than I am) but for him to be getting anything now as a retiree, it would have to be a medical and that medical would have to be fairly significant to retire him this young.

Unless somebody can specify an actual "retirement", I just assume the reporters got it wrong b/c reporters are dumb.

Unrelated anecdote -- but I once ferried HBO around Vietnam covering a former Sec State. We picked them up from the State 757 in Saigon / HCMC, and flew them around the countryside in a civilian-like painted USAF turboprop.
The entire thing was to interview some guy, who the SecState claimed was the VietCong who shot an RPG at him -- and he received a Silver Star.
So first day, the HBO reporters get on and ask me (a mechanic -- these things break frequently, so we go with them) ... so they ask me "what's the wifi password?" ... bruh... there ain't no wifi on this thing. The seats are taken straight from our childhoods on yellow school buses, scratches included.
And then they spent the next 2 hours scrambling trying to find the citation for the SecState' silver star. They had the entire flight on the 757 to do that. 2 nights in Saigon. And they never even looked up the citation. None of them. Readily available on wikipedia. And they couldn't even do that.
I always had this suspicion, but that's when I realized full stop... journalists are all a joke.

More than a few "journalists" are really failed English majors or wannabe playwrights who can't make it.

Anything is possible at this point, but they do keep saying retired. I'm sure it'll come out eventually.

The stories I could tell about the press flying the USAF C-37A (Gulfstream V). It was transport for the VP, Comm Camanders, and 3-letter agency personnel. Had multiple jets painted like civilian Gulfstreams for these types of road shows and fluff.

This is a perfect example of why NFL teams will/should disregard all the tape of scUM prospects. They are not "high football IQ" players. They are not great at pre-snap reads. They knew the plays in advance. They cheated.

Jerry Jones' first two picks this year were TCUN guys. Neither of them have made an impact.

Mine was closer to a small C130... nothing as fancy shmancy as a Gulfstream.
Our primary customers were The Dudes in Africa and that triangle around Sabah, Mindanao, and Palawan... but sometimes we got sucked into these State Dept dog and ponies b/c we could go where the heavies couldn't and still appear low-profile.

I still can't get over that guy asking me for wifi while we're getting situated. We're literally peeing in gatorade bottles in the cargo hold b/c there's no lav... and he thinks there's a wifi network.

@NFBuck @kujirakira @SEREbuckeye

Not to impugn the credibility of a military retiree unnecessarily, but what if he's out on a medical and it's, shall we say, more about documenting every headache or sniffle rather than a significant injury?

Suffice to say, I'd bet we all know people who game the system, and it's very clear Mr. Stalions likes gaming systems. Something to ponder.
Medical retirements take an extensive paper trail to initiate. It then goes in front of board of medical professionals. One doesn't just go to somebody and say "I need to medically retire." A lot goes into it and everything is checked.

Just as a for instance of how deep it goes: I retired at 24 years; to get the medical disability I received, my medical records were thoroughly reviewed and I went on countless appointments for checks and interviews with medical professionals.

A lot goes into it. It's a hard system to game, but that's not to say it's impossible.
