Do you guys buy the little tinfoil hat theory that Manuel seized the opportunity to get Harbaugh out and self-reported or orchestrated the leaking/reporting via backchannel? I can’t imagine something of that magnitude would be able to stay public for long but it doesn’t sound that insane to me when you consider Harbaugh’s exit history, their relationship and the fact that Harbaugh is just sort of a fuck.

I mean. Imagine you come into a program as AD and the Coach has been struggling.
Suddenly he goes on a 2 year unprecedented run. Things are looking up, only to get a call from the Police Dept one day.
One of your employees hacked another University's network (highly illegal). And now they're finding potential child porn on his laptop.
You fire him immediately. The Head Coach claims he was a rogue actor.
But as time goes by, more material just keeps resurfacing. Until you realize that there's a whole scheme of rampant cheating on a level of fixing the matches. And now you have a 50k employee buying a 500k house.
The walls are caving in. Who knows how deep it's going to go. And it's not blatantly obvious that this guy, who you were about to fire, only went on a run because of all this cheating.
He's going to revert to being a dunce, and leave you holding the ruins of a program that could be sanctioned into oblivion; not even accounting for the actual illegal stuff.
Moreover, every single AD and President not your own is out for blood. And your own President is a certified sociopath who will throw everyone under the bus.
There's no point keeping the cheater; he's incompetent without the assistance.
And everyone wants blood. The wolves are at the door, it's time to destroy the problem at the root and feed him to the wolves.

I have to admit with this “regent” speaking up it sort of has me nervous a bit.

If they were going to get something soon why would he speak up? I guess he wouldn’t know what the big ten has in store but yeah I’m less confident now.

Then again, basically 3 days of no news has helped it die down a bit. I’d be surprised if tomorrow doesn’t bring more news (hopefully the other shoe).

My only concern is that they’re going to get away with it long enough to win it all. Then from there Jim will leave and the NCAA will think “eh maybe we should go east on them”.

They need to pay for what they did. Jim leaving after this year just isn’t good enough.

As long as they circle back and punish the program too I’m good with this.

Jim isn’t the only one that needs to see punishment.

The NCAA won't do anything this year. The B1G is another story. I imagine there is a huge amount of pressure from the other 13 B1G schools to nip this shit in the bud asap.

I really hope so. But I'm pessimistic, like I said.
There's a guy running around, breaking into people's houses. Stealing shit. The police have him caught. Look at all this evidence - it was him. Arrest him now and stop him from stealing more shit.
If you don't, he could possibly go into the Big Ten's house soon, and steal the championship game. He's going to steal it from you, Big Ten. You have him in the back of your police car. All you have to do is take him down to the station. If you don't, what's stopping him from continuing his crime spree? You have him now. Do the right thing or you have no one to blame but yourself. Sure, Purdue could stop them, maybe. Maryland or Penn State could stop them. Ohio State could stop them. But do you really want to take that chance? I mean, yeah, you can go in later and vacate that championship, but why not let someone who wasn't cheating win it? For the love of boobies, do the right thing, Big Ten!!!

So I guess Brian Kelly has come out "in support of" M*ch*gan in this. here's what he said:

It’s silly,” he told ESPN on Wednesday. “Silly meaning my genuine feeling is that we have too many smart people that have looked at this and said we should be doing it and we haven’t taken the time to actually move it forward.”
Kelly said that teams attempting to steal signals of opponents has been “going on forever.”
Asked whether those efforts ever rose to the level of what Michigan is accused of, sending people to scout opponents in person and using recording devices, Kelly said, “Who knows.”
“But this isn’t the first time we’ve heard of sign stealing,” he said, “whether there is proposed sign stealing or people were buying tickets to other games. This is all part of why this should not even be part of the equation.”
Kelly said the tangible effect of stealing signals is debatable. In 32 years of coaching, he said, he has never believed they lost a game because of it.
“I’ve never come back to the office and go, they got us,” he added.

Maybe I'm a goober, but he's talking about stealing signs. If the other team can figure out your signs, good for them. That's not the problem here. We're worried about the fact that they scouted other teams ahead of the game, and used electronic devices to record them. In one scenario, you have about 3 or 3-1/2 hours to decipher the other team's signals. You have the eyeballs of the coaching staff, and maybe players. In the other scenario, you have I don't know how many people to decipher the code, and weeks. And, you have computer algorithms and AI and stuff to help you. And there's no doubt that M*ch*gan was using it, because they had laminated sheets showing the other teams' signals. You don't figure out the other team's plays and then run over to the printer and print them out and then laminate them during the game. I know I'm not explaining this to anyone who needs to be convinced.... I'm just venting. Brian Kelly is a doofus, but he did not come out in support of M*ch*gan.

I mean, if Brian Kelly doesn't think it's a big issue, then they should definitely nuke the program.

I mean the one fbi dude knew trading trophies for tats was ncaa illegal and notified Tress.
I think the "interstate cybercrime" is them hacking Ohio State's practice footage though.
And so the sign stealing, while not fed illegal, is adjacent to the fed illegal activity and establishes moral turpitude or something or other. It comes into the case as supporting material.
The interstate crime was the pervert Weiss collecting pics.
