2023 Spring Practices and Other Tidbits

So at DE I love JT and Sawyer if we just put Sawyer at a traditional DE position. But beyond those two, we need Curry, Abor and Jackson (or at the very least 2 of those 3) to make big leaps. I thought the world of all of them as recruits, but now the road needs to meet the rubber. Certainly can happen and I am looking forward to see how they progress, but just one of those question marks that I am leaving open until we see the results. Curry is the only one we have really seen play meaningful minutes and he looked great, so I will say he would definitely be my club leader for the next guy up at DE.

Hard thing about those guys is that they're likely sitting behind All Americans. Just have to blow up every single chance they get. It's the Offense' responsibility to blow people out so they can get more playing time. Coaches have to be on board with that also.

Yeah, but it's also on the coaches to give starters proper rest, and make sure that their backups are ready to step in and produce at a high level. When guys like Joey Bosa and Chase Young had to go to the bench and rest, there wasn't massive drop offs. The DL still looked competent and could hold the line until the superstar DE came back in. If the 2nd year DEs can play like that, then the defense would go a long way

Ryan Day said fourth-year lineman Josh Fryar will start the spring at left tackle, while second- and third-year linemen Tegra Tshabola and Zen Michalski will compete for the vacant right tackle positions. Along with the starting quarterback job, the tackle positions may be the most important for Ohio State to figure out this offseason given the losses of both Paris Johnson Jr. and Dawand Jones.

At least through one padless practice, though, Day didn’t see any glaring issues with the alignment. And as expected, second-year Buckeye Carson Hinzman and Louisiana-Monroe transfer Victor Cutler are the top two centers this spring as Ohio State works to replace Luke Wypler on the interior.

“We moved Josh to left, we felt like he had enough experience. He felt comfortable making that move, we'll see how that goes as we start to put the pads on," Day said. "It's hard with no pads, just the point of contact. But watching him move his feet, that was really good. We see Zen and Tegra on the other side, watch the film, kind of see where they're at. Carson's at center there, Vic’s at center. So first day, it's kind of hard to tell. But I don't think anybody looked out of place. And they're going against a good front; JT (Tuimoloau) and Jack (Sawyer) and Tyleik (Williams) and Ty (Hamilton). So we're gonna get a great evaluation as we head through 15 practices.”

Came in to talk about Fryar at LT. I don't hate it at all, he's probably our best OT and that's who you typically play at LT rather than blindly using measurables. Great past example was Jamarco Jones. Sometimes you'll have a prototype at LT with the sought after measurables like we just had with PJ...but he also started at RT until he was ready. Zen and Tshabola are probably more LTs based on raw statistics, but for right now might be better served at RT. Could shake out differently by game day, but for now I'm not opposed it and curious how Fryar looks at LT.

I drove over to The Schott yesterday and purchased Spring Game tickets: $7 each and saved $8 in Ticketmaster fees ($2.50 per ticket service fee plus $3.00 processing fee).

Does anyone here really like Ticketmaster?
